Best VPNs for Bovada in 2026
Our experts have reviewed 53 VPN providers, which were put through extensive rounds of testing. To learn more about that process, here’s how we review VPNs, where we explain our criteria and our policy of being fully transparent.
- Best VPN for Bovada: NordVPN. Based on my hands-on Bovada VPN testing, NordVPN delivered the best combination of speed, stable U.S. servers, privacy, and reliable access. ExpressVPN is the easiest VPN to use, Proton VPN offers the best suite of privacy.
Not every VPN is a good match for Bovada. Some are fast but inconsistent, while others offer strong privacy at the cost of slower speeds or unreliable U.S. connections. To find out which services are actually worth using, I tested the most popular VPNs across multiple U.S. server locations, comparing their performance, stability, privacy features, and overall usability with Bovada.
In this guide, you'll find the VPNs that performed best, what each one does well, and which is the right fit depending on your priorities. I'll also cover how to use a VPN with Bovada, common connection issues, and the important things to know before getting started.

How We Tested and Verified Best VPNs for Bovada
Selecting the top VPNs for Bovada required a platform-focused evaluation rather than simply comparing provider specifications. We began by assessing approximately 54 VPN services and filtering them based on the areas that determine real-world VPN quality:
- Privacy and security capabilities: We examined encryption methods, independent audits, logging policies, leak prevention, and additional security tools.
- Connection quality: We compared speed results, latency, stability, and how consistently each VPN maintained reliable connections.
- Server availability: We looked at server coverage across the United States and other countrie.
- User experience and value: We considered app usability, supported devices, pricing, customer support, and overall reliability.
This gave us the list of best VPNs that are there today. Then out of these top 11, we shortlisted further and identified the strongest VPNs for online gambling use. However, every betting platform has its own requirements, and general VPN performance does not always reflect how well a service works with Bovada.
To ensure accurate rankings, we carried out separate Bovada-focused testing on the shortlisted VPNs. We evaluated each provider based on the factors that directly affect Bovada users and used those results to determine the best VPN choices for Bovada in 2026.
Reviewed Bovada’s Official Terms and Support Documentation: Before testing, we reviewed Bovada’s Terms of Service, Help Center information, and available support resources to understand account requirements, regional restrictions, and any platform rules that could affect VPN usage.
Tested VPN Connections With Bovada: We connected each VPN through multiple U.S. locations, including California, Texas, Florida, and other available servers. We checked whether Bovada loaded correctly, sportsbook pages opened smoothly, betting markets refreshed properly, and casino sections worked without connection problems.
Measured Speed and Connection Stability: We tested download speeds, latency, and overall responsiveness while browsing Bovada. We evaluated how each VPN performed during longer sessions, including navigating betting markets, checking odds, and switching between different sections of the platform.
Verified Privacy and Security Features: We tested essential VPN protections for Bovada users, including Kill Switch functionality, IP/DNS/WebRTC leak protection, encryption standards, obfuscation features, and no-logs policies. We also reviewed additional privacy tools such as Double VPN, Secure Core, MultiHop, and Dedicated IP options where available.
Compared the Finalists and Ranked Them for Bovada: After completing testing, we compared each VPN based on speed, reliability, privacy protection, U.S. server availability, ease of use, and overall value. The final rankings represent the VPNs that performed best specifically for Bovada users.
Which US States Does Bovada Accept Players From?
In the US, Bovada currently accepts players from Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Now, a common misconception is that Bovada is state-licensed. It isn't. Bovada is an offshore platform licensed in Costa Rica. They accept US players only from states that haven't issued strict cease-and-desist orders against them.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve tracked state gaming boards cracking down on Bovada. Today, Bovada actively blocks users from roughly 20 US states.
Restricted States (Never Connect Your VPN to These)
If you route your VPN through any of these states, Bovada’s geo-blocker will lock you out or flag your account immediately:
- Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia.
Supported States (Safe VPN Connections)
Based on my testing, there are 43 supported US states where Bovada accepts connections. For a safer VPN location, I recommend choosing a server located in an accepted US state, such as Louisiana, California, Texas, Florida, Illinois, Georgia, or Washington, which provided the most stable sessions during testing.
The Best VPNs for Bovada in 2026
After extensive evaluation, we found that only a handful of VPNs delivered the right combination of speed, reliability, privacy, and access to US servers located in states supported by Bovada. Some providers offered better performance for fast-paced browsing, while others stood out for stronger privacy controls, affordability, or flexibility across multiple devices.
Our final list includes the VPNs that provided the most dependable Bovada experience across different user needs. NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), Proton VPN, Surfshark, and ranked highest based on their overall performance, features, and value.
Explore the rankings below to see which VPN is the best fit for your Bovada usage.
1. NordVPN
NordVPN delivered the smoothest overall experience during my Bovada testing. I primarily used the NordLynx protocol, which consistently gave me the best balance of speed and stability across multiple U.S. servers. During my testing, California (LA), Texas (Houston), and Florida (Miami) delivered the most reliable results, with Bovada loading quickly, betting markets updating without noticeable delays, and switching between the sportsbook and casino feeling seamless. Once I settled on a server, I rarely had a reason to reconnect or try another location.
To see how NordVPN handled more restrictive networks, I also tested Obfuscated Servers with the NordWhisper protocol. While I can't confirm how Bovada detects VPN traffic, this combination maintained a stable encrypted connection throughout my sessions without requiring frequent server changes. I also verified NordVPN's Kill Switch by intentionally interrupting the VPN connection, and it immediately blocked internet access, ensuring my real IP address wasn't exposed during testing.
Performance was equally impressive. In my speed tests, NordVPN reduced download speeds by only 22–31% on Windows, making it the fastest VPN I tested for Bovada. Those speeds stayed consistent during sessions lasting over 35 to 40 minutes, so browsing betting markets, checking live odds, and moving between different sections of the site always felt smooth.
Before logging into Bovada, I also ran IP, DNS, and WebRTC leak tests to verify that my real location wasn't exposed. NordVPN passed every test, giving me the confidence to use it throughout my evaluation.
Beyond performance, NordVPN includes several privacy features that fit well with Bovada users. Its Double VPN feature adds an extra encryption layer, Threat Protection helps block trackers and malicious domains, and its independently audited no-logs policy provides additional privacy assurance.
- Server Network: 8,900+ servers in 129 countries, including U.S. coverage in all 50 US states. Basically, you can choose any server from all the servers that Bovada permits.
- Privacy & Security: AES-256-GCM, ChaCha20, and Post-Quantum Encryption (NordLynx Protocol) encryption, independently audited no-logs policy (verified 6 times), RAM-only server infrastructure, Kill Switch, Double VPN, Threat Protection, Obfuscated Servers, DNS/WebRTC leak protection, and Dedicated IP support (which we advise you to get it).

2. ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN was the most effortless VPN I used with Bovada. From installation to connecting to a server, everything felt straightforward, and I rarely had to adjust any settings before getting started. The app established a connection within seconds, and once connected, Bovada loaded normally without making me search for a better-performing server.
Since ExpressVPN offers servers in all 50 U.S. states, I experimented with several locations before settling on California (LA), Texas (Houston), and Florida (Miami), which consistently provided the smoothest experience. Sportsbook pages opened quickly, live odds refreshed reliably, and moving between betting markets and casino games felt fluid even during longer browsing sessions. One feature I particularly liked was automatic obfuscation. Instead of manually enabling special servers or protocols, ExpressVPN handled VPN traffic obfuscation automatically whenever it detected the need, making the experience completely hands-off.
Its proprietary Lightway protocol was my preferred choice throughout most of my evaluation because it connected almost instantly and stayed reliable from start to finish. I also tested the Network Lock (Kill Switch) by deliberately interrupting the VPN connection, and it immediately blocked internet traffic until the secure connection was restored, preventing my real IP address from being exposed.
ExpressVPN delivered solid performance overall. My Wi-Fi tests recorded an average download speed reduction of 40.50%, while Windows produced the best results with only a 29–31% drop. Average latency measured 257.17 ms with 16.54 ms jitter, which was responsive enough for browsing betting markets, checking live odds, and navigating different sections of Bovada without noticeable frustration.
Before accessing Bovada, I checked for IP, DNS, and WebRTC leaks to confirm the VPN was protecting my connection properly. ExpressVPN passed every test successfully. Combined with its TrustedServer RAM-only technology, strict no-logs policy, and British Virgin Islands jurisdiction, it offers a strong balance between ease of use and privacy.
- Server Network: undisclosed number of servers in 105 countries, including servers in all 50 U.S. states. California, Texas, and Florida provided the most consistent Bovada experience in my evaluation.
- Privacy & Security: AES-256 and ChaCha20/Poly1305, TrustedServer RAM-only infrastructure, no-logs policy, automatic obfuscation, Kill Switch, DNS leak protection, and advanced privacy controls.
- VPN Protocols: OpenVPN, Lightway, and IKEv2.
- Additional Features: 10-14 simultaneous connections, compatibility with Windows, macOS, Linux, routers, smart TVs, browser extensions, 30-day money-back guarantee, easy-to-use applications, and 24/7 live chat support.
- Pricing: $2.44 per month for a 24 months plan.
Why ExpressVPN for Bovada
- Servers available in all 50 US states.
- No unexpected disconnects during extended sessions.
- TrustedServer RAM-only servers improve privacy protection.
- Servers available in all 50 U.S. states.
- California, Texas, and Florida delivered the best overall experience.

3. Proton VPN
Proton VPN stood out during my Bovada testing for its strong privacy focus rather than outright speed. I primarily used the WireGuard protocol for everyday testing, then switched to Stealth to evaluate how it handled networks where VPN traffic might be more easily identified. While performance wasn't as fast as NordVPN, ExpressVPN and Surfshark VPN, the connection remained reliable throughout my sessions, making it a solid option if privacy is your top priority.
Across the U.S. locations I tried, California, Texas, and Florida consistently offered the best experience. Bovada remained accessible without connection drops, although page loads and betting market updates occasionally took longer than they did with NordVPN. Enabling the Stealth protocol added another layer of traffic obfuscation, and despite a small reduction in speed, it continued to provide a stable encrypted connection. I also confirmed that Proton VPN's Kill Switch worked as expected by interrupting the VPN connection, and it immediately blocked internet access until the VPN was restored.
The biggest trade-off was speed. My Wi-Fi tests showed an average download speed reduction of 64.52%, with Windows producing the strongest results at 50–76%, depending on the server. Average latency reached 291.17 ms with 17.96 ms jitter, making the interface feel slightly less responsive when refreshing odds or navigating between different Bovada sections. Even so, the connection itself remained stable throughout longer sessions.
Before signing into Bovada, I checked for IP, DNS, and WebRTC leaks to ensure my real location wasn't exposed. Proton VPN passed every test successfully. Combined with its independently audited no-logs policy, Swiss jurisdiction, Secure Core, and NetShield, it offers one of the strongest privacy packages for users who value security over maximum performance.
- Server Network: 17,276 servers in 127 countries (130 secure core in 67 countries) in total. Proton claims they have 6015 servers spanning over 22 cities and 18 states. However, when i counted on Windows and mobile devices, i could only list 19 locations.
- Privacy & Security: AES-256 and ChaCha20, Swiss-based privacy protection, audited no-logs policy, Secure Core servers, Stealth protocol, Kill Switch, DNS leak protection, and NetShield protection against ads, trackers, and malicious domains.
- VPN Protocols: WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2, and Stealth.
- Additional Features: 10 simultaneous connections, Secure Core routing, NetShield, compatibility with Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, routers, and more, 30-day money-back guarantee, and customer support through guides and ticket-based assistance.
- Pricing: $2.49 per month for a 24 months plan.
Why Proton VPN for Bovada
- Strong privacy features with Secure Core protection.
- Stealth protocol helps disguise VPN traffic.
- Large U.S. server network with multiple connection options.
- Audited no-logs policy under Swiss privacy laws.
- Excellent security tools including Kill Switch and NetShield.
- Reliable connection stability with no unexpected disconnects during testing.
- Good choice for users prioritizing privacy over maximum speed.
- 30-day money-back guarantee.
Consider another VPN if…
- You need the fastest possible speeds for Bovada sessions.
- You require consistently low latency connections.
- You want permanent live chat support.
- You are looking for the cheapest VPN option available.

4. Surfshark
Surfshark struck me as the best value VPN for Bovada. It doesn't top the charts for raw speed, nor does it focus exclusively on privacy, but it delivers a well-rounded experience while allowing unlimited simultaneous connections under a single subscription. That combination makes it especially appealing if you plan to use Bovada across multiple devices or share your VPN with family members.
Although Surfshark doesn't have servers in every U.S. state, its network covers several Bovada-friendly locations. I found California, Texas, and Georgia to be the most reliable, with sportsbook pages loading consistently, betting markets updating smoothly, and casino games opening without frustrating delays. I also enabled Obfuscated Servers to see how well they handled VPN traffic masking. While I can't say how Bovada identifies VPN connections, the feature maintained a dependable encrypted connection throughout my sessions. Surfshark's Kill Switch also reacted instantly whenever I intentionally disconnected the VPN, ensuring my real IP address remained hidden.
The overall performance was more than enough for everyday Bovada use. Surfshark recorded an average download speed reduction of 42.65%, while Windows produced the best results with speed losses ranging from 11–43%, depending on the server. Latency averaged 317.5 ms with 11.91 ms jitter. Although pages occasionally took a little longer to load than they did with NordVPN or ExpressVPN, the connection itself stayed stable without unexpected interruptions.
I also experimented with MultiHop, which routes traffic through two VPN servers instead of one. As expected, it introduced a little extra latency, but it worked well for anyone wanting an additional layer of privacy. Before accessing Bovada, I checked for IP, DNS, and WebRTC leaks, and Surfshark passed every test successfully. The availability of an optional Dedicated IP is another useful addition for users who prefer connecting with the same VPN IP address.
- Server Network: 4,500+ servers in 100 countries, 600+ US servers in 19 states.
- Privacy & Security: AES-256-GCM (OpenVPN and IKEv2), ChaCha20 (WireGuard), and Post-Quantum Encryption (WireGuard + Dausos), audited no-logs policy, Obfuscated Servers, MultiHop, Dedicated IP option, Kill Switch, DNS leak protection, and IP/DNS/WebRTC leak protection.
- VPN Protocols: WireGuard, IKEv2, OpenVPN, and Dausos.
- Additional Features: unlimited simultaneous connections, Dedicated IP option, compatibility with Windows, macOS, Linux, routers, browser extensions, smart TVs, 30-day money-back guarantee, and 24/7 live chat support.
- Pricing: $1.99 per month for a 24 months plan.
Why Surfshark for Bovada
- Excellent value compared to other premium VPNs.
- Unlimited simultaneous connections.
- Stable performance during extended Bovada sessions.
- Bovada server support for 10 states.
- Obfuscated Servers help conceal VPN traffic.
- MultiHop provides an additional layer of privacy.
- Dedicated IP option available.
- No IP, DNS, or WebRTC leaks detected during testing.
- 24/7 live chat support.
- 30-day money-back guarantee.

VPNs That Failed My Bovada Testing
Not every VPN I tested made the final list. Some looked promising on paper, but my real-world experience was very different. I spent hours trying different U.S. server locations, protocols, browser configurations, and troubleshooting steps, yet some providers simply couldn't establish a reliable connection with Bovada. Rather than recommending VPNs based on their features alone, I decided to include this section to highlight the ones that didn't perform well enough during my testing.
1. PIA VPN
Private Internet Access (PIA) offers one of the largest U.S. server networks and plenty of customization options, so I expected it to perform well with Bovada. Unfortunately, my real-world testing told a very different story.
Despite trying multiple U.S. server locations across Bovada-supported states, switching between WireGuard and OpenVPN, enabling obfuscation, clearing cookies, flushing DNS, and testing across different browsers and devices, I couldn't get PIA to access Bovada consistently. In most cases, the website either refused to load or blocked access altogether.
What made this stand out even more was that the exact same PIA servers had no trouble accessing other gambling platforms I tested, including Cloudbet and several others. Based on my experience, the issue wasn't with PIA's overall ability to unblock websites - it appeared to be that Bovada had already identified and blocked many of PIA's IP addresses.
From a technical standpoint, PIA itself performed well. Its Kill Switch worked exactly as expected, obfuscation was available across most servers, and my IP, DNS, and WebRTC leak tests all passed without exposing my real location. The VPN also remains highly customizable, allowing you to fine-tune protocols, encryption, and connection settings.
Performance was respectable outside of Bovada. Windows recorded download speed reductions between 42–83%, with an average drop of around 60.27%, while latency averaged 304.50 ms. Although it wasn't among the fastest VPNs I tested, it remained stable for general browsing and everyday use.
Overall, PIA is still a capable VPN for privacy and security, but based on my testing, I can't recommend it for Bovada because I wasn't able to access the platform reliably despite trying every troubleshooting step available.
- Server Network: undisclosed number of servers in 91 countries, including servers in all 50 U.S. states.
- Privacy & Security: AES-128-GCM, AES-256-GCM, AES-128-CBC, AES-256-CBC, and ChaCha20, court-proven no-logs policy, Kill Switch, obfuscation across most servers, Dedicated IP option, DNS leak protection, and no IP, DNS, or WebRTC leaks detected during my evaluation.
- VPN Protocols: WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IPsec (IKEv2).
- Additional Features: unlimited simultaneous connections, extensive customization options, Dedicated IP, compatibility with Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, routers, browser extensions, 30-day money-back guarantee, and 24/7 live chat support.
- Pricing: $2.03 per month for a 24 months plan
Why PIA for Bovada
- Servers in all 50 U.S. states.
- One of the largest VPN server networks available.
- Extensive customization options for advanced users.
- Obfuscation available across most servers.
- Court-proven no-logs policy.
- Optional Dedicated IP.
- No IP, DNS, or WebRTC leaks detected.
- Competitive long-term pricing.
- 24/7 live chat support.
- 30-day money-back guarantee.
Consider another VPN if…
- You specifically want to use Bovada, as I couldn't reliably access it during my testing.
- You want a VPN that consistently works with gambling platforms that aggressively block VPN IPs.
- You prefer a solution that worked reliably throughout my Bovada evaluation.

Does Bovada Allow VPNs? (What I Found Testing the Platform)
Short answer: No, not if you're using one to hide or manipulate your real location.
When I first tested Bovada, I noticed that the site didn't immediately block every VPN connection. That made me wonder whether VPNs were unofficially tolerated. After reviewing Bovada's Terms of Service alongside my own testing, the answer became much clearer.
Bovada doesn't simply monitor whether you're connected through a VPN - it specifically prohibits using one to disguise your location or bypass geographic restrictions.
During my testing, every session generated location-based checks. Whether I simply browsed the sportsbook or logged into an account, Bovada consistently collected information such as my IP address, browser details, device information, and session activity. That's consistent with Bovada's Privacy Policy, which states that it collects IP addresses and other technical identifiers to operate the service and help detect fraud.
The clearest evidence, however, comes directly from Bovada's own Terms of Service.
Under Section 6.2 (Fraudulent Activity), Bovada explicitly states that the "usage of a VPN, proxy or similar service that masks or manipulates the identification of your real location" gives it the right to immediately terminate or deny access to an account. The same section also states that account balances, including deposits and winnings, may be forfeited.
That language leaves very little room for interpretation.
While testing, I found that stable, consistent connections generally attracted less scrutiny than constantly changing VPN servers. But that shouldn't be interpreted as approval. In my experience, the platform continuously evaluates connection integrity, and any inconsistency significantly increases the chances of triggering additional verification or an account review.
Can Bovada Detect VPN Software?
Yes, Bovada catches VPN users easily, especially if you use generic or free VPN apps. During my tests, I intentionally connected through several popular VPN protocols and server types to see what would happen.
Here are the exact triggers that got my test connections flagged or prompted extra verification checks:
- Mid-Session Geolocation Jumps: Changing VPN servers while logged into Bovada is an instant red flag. Going from a Florida IP to an Illinois IP in the middle of a poker tournament or sports bet will freeze your session right away.
- Commercial Data-Center IPs: Standard VPN IPs belong to commercial servers (like AWS or DigitalOcean). Bovada cross-references IP databases in real time. When I tested a standard, non-obfuscated VPN IP, I hit immediate "Access Denied" or "Error 1020" screens.
- Overcrowded Shared IPs: When hundreds of users share a single VPN IP address to access Bovada, fraud scripts instantly flag every logged-in account on that server for potential multi-accounting or bonus abuse.
- WebRTC & DNS IP Leaks: In my leak-testing setup on Chrome, standard VPN connections frequently leaked actual ISP locations through WebRTC background requests, even while the VPN app claimed I was connected elsewhere. However, the VPNs I have recommended here, actually gave steady IP Leak free performance.
- System Clock & Time Zone Discrepancies: I tested connecting to a Dallas, Texas server while keeping my laptop’s system clock set to Eastern Time (New York). Bovada’s client scripts picked up on the mismatch between my system time and my IP location within minutes.
- Browser & Device Fingerprints; One thing that surprised me was how much information browsers expose even after your IP address changes. Modern browsers generate unique fingerprints using factors like your graphics hardware, installed fonts, screen resolution, rendering engine, and audio processing. Your IP address might change every time you connect to a VPN, but those fingerprints often remain identical. While Bovada doesn't publicly explain which fingerprinting methods it uses, online gambling platforms commonly combine browser fingerprints with IP information to identify returning devices and investigate suspicious account activity.
- GPS & Mobile Location Services: On iPhone and Android devices, a VPN changes your IP address, but it doesn't spoof your GPS location. I realized that if Location Services remain enabled, your browser can potentially expose your physical location even though your VPN is connected somewhere else. If your GPS reports New York while your VPN exits through Texas, that inconsistency can become another signal for fraud detection.
What Happens If Bovada Catches Your VPN?
When Bovada detects suspicious VPN activity, they don't always issue an immediate permanent ban, but they do put your account in security lockdown.
Here is what I encountered during my tests and security audits:
- Security Hold & Account Freeze: Your session abruptly terminates, and you are logged out with an error message instructing you to contact customer support.
- Strict KYC Verification: Bovada requires you to submit a government-issued photo ID, proof of address (utility bill or bank statement), and selfie verification. If your physical ID shows you live in a restricted state, your account will be permanently shut down.
- Forfeiture of Wagers and Funds: Under Section 2.3 of their TOS, if Bovada confirms you bypassed state restrictions using a VPN, they retain full authority to void all open bets and confiscate your balance.
- Payout Gatekeeping: The withdrawal process is where 90% of VPN users get caught. If you request a bank wire or check-by-courier, your real banking details instantly expose your geographic location.
This is supported by Section 3.6 of Bovada's Terms, which explains that the company may use third-party verification services and compare the information you provide against government-issued identification.
If that verification indicates you registered from a restricted jurisdiction or used a VPN to bypass geographic restrictions, Section 6.2 gives Bovada the authority to terminate your account and forfeit your balance, including both deposits and winnings. For me, this made one thing clear: getting through the login screen isn't the difficult part. Passing verification when it's requested is.
Pro Tip from My Tests: If you ever run a VPN on Bovada, stick exclusively to Cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Litecoin, USDT) for deposits and payouts. Crypto bypasses local banking infrastructure and keeps your payout requests fast and seamless without triggering geographic banking checks.unt is locked, your best move is to contact support and complete verification, it’s usually the fastest way to regain access.
Deposits, Withdrawals & Identity Verification
One area that deserves much more attention than most VPN guides give it is payments. Logging in successfully doesn't guarantee you'll be able to withdraw your winnings.
Traditional Visa and Mastercard transactions frequently encounter problems with offshore gambling sites because many U.S. issuers decline gambling-related payments or apply geographic restrictions based on billing information.
For that reason, I found cryptocurrency to be the smoothest payment option.
Bovada supports Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin (LTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Tether (USDT), and crypto transactions generally process faster while avoiding many of the issues associated with card payments. However, using cryptocurrency doesn't eliminate identity verification. If your account is selected for review, especially after larger withdrawals, Bovada may still request a government-issued ID and proof of address that matches the information provided when the account was created.
That's why I always recommend registering with accurate personal information rather than assuming a VPN alone will solve every location issue.
Can You Use a Sister Site If Bovada Blocks Your VPN?
I wondered the same thing, so I looked into how Bovada's sister brands operate.
Bovada is part of the same network as Ignition Casino, Café Casino, Slots.lv, Bodog, and Joe Fortune. Bovada and Ignition even share the PaiWangLuo Poker Network, so poker players on both sites are sitting in the same player pool.
Because these brands share backend infrastructure and anti-fraud systems, switching to a sister site isn't a reliable way to avoid VPN restrictions.
From everything I found, if your account or VPN activity is flagged on one brand, using the same device, browser fingerprint, or VPN server across sister sites can trigger additional security reviews there as well.
I also wouldn't recommend trying to claim welcome bonuses across multiple sister sites from the same VPN IP, as that's exactly the type of activity gambling operators monitor for as potential bonus abuse or coordinated betting.
How to Use a VPN with Bovada
Whether you're traveling, using public Wi-Fi, or trying to maintain a stable connection while accessing your account, using a VPN with Bovada is straightforward. In our testing, we found that the setup process is essentially the same across all scenarios. The only differences are the precautions you should take beforehand and what you can expect once you're connected.
Important: At TechNadu, we recommend using a VPN to improve your online privacy and security, not to bypass gambling laws, licensing restrictions, or Bovada's Terms of Service. Online gambling laws vary significantly between jurisdictions, and it's your responsibility to ensure that using Bovada is legal where you live or travel. Before accessing your account, review the gambling regulations applicable to your location and comply with Bovada's Terms and Conditions.
Standard VPN Setup (Works for Most Situations)
During our tests, this configuration provided the most reliable connection while minimizing the chances of accidental IP leaks or interrupted sessions.
1. Connect to your VPN before opening Bovada.
From our testing, VPNs with a larger US server network delivered more consistent connections and smoother sessions. We recommend choosing a server in an available Bovada-supported state. NordVPN stood out in our tests for its speed, stability, and wide selection of US server locations.
2. Enable the Kill Switch and Obfuscation.
A Kill Switch prevents your real IP address from being exposed if your VPN connection unexpectedly drops. Some hotel, airport, office, university, and public Wi-Fi networks actively detect and block VPN traffic. If your VPN offers Obfuscated Servers (sometimes called Stealth Mode), enable them before connecting. This makes your VPN traffic appear like normal HTTPS traffic and can improve connection reliability on restrictive networks.
3. Connect to the nearest server in a jurisdiction where Bovada is legally available.
For the best balance of speed and latency, choose the closest supported location instead of automatically selecting the farthest server. We used Texas, Florida and California servers.
4. Clear your browser's cache and cookies.
Browsers often store location-related cookies and cached website data from previous sessions. Clearing them can resolve loading issues after changing your VPN location.
5. Sign in to your Bovada account.
If Bovada requests additional verification, complete the requested security checks rather than repeatedly switching VPN servers.
6. Keep the VPN connected throughout your session.
Avoid disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly while logged in, as sudden IP address changes may trigger additional account security checks.
Use Case 1: You're Traveling
If you're traveling domestically or internationally, spend a few minutes preparing before you leave. It can save you from unnecessary account access issues later.
Before you travel:
- Verify whether Bovada is legally available in your destination.
- Review any account verification requirements so you aren't caught off guard while away.
- Install and test your VPN before departure.
- If you'll be relying on hotel or airport Wi-Fi, enable the Kill Switch and familiarize yourself with your VPN's Obfuscated Servers in advance.
Once you've arrived, simply follow the Standard VPN Setup above.
Use Case 2: You're in a Region Where Bovada Is Restricted
If you're in a region where Bovada isn't available, it's important to understand the difference between using a VPN for privacy and attempting to bypass regional restrictions.
If you're accessing Bovada from a supported jurisdiction but experiencing location-related issues, simply follow the Standard VPN Setup above.
Important: TechNadu does not recommend or encourage using a VPN to bypass regional gambling restrictions or gain unauthorized access to Bovada. Users are responsible for complying with local laws and Bovada's Terms and Conditions. A VPN should be used to improve privacy and secure your connection—not to evade legal or platform-imposed restrictions.
If your account is restricted by mistake: If you believe your account was incorrectly restricted while you're actually in a supported jurisdiction, contact Bovada's customer support. They might help you verify your location and help resolve the issue.
Use Case 3: You Want Better Privacy and Security
Many users don't use a VPN because they can't access Bovada, they use one because they don't want their gambling activity exposed on unsecured networks.
When you're connected through a VPN:
- Your internet traffic is encrypted.
- Your login credentials are protected from interception on public Wi-Fi.
- Your ISP cannot easily inspect your browsing activity.
- Your real IP address is hidden from the websites you visit.
- Simply follow the Standard VPN Setup above before opening Bovada.
Security Tip: A VPN enhances your online privacy, but it doesn't replace good account security. Use a strong, unique password, enable two-factor authentication if available, and never share your login credentials. A VPN also doesn't change Bovada's verification requirements or exempt users from complying with applicable laws or the platform's Terms and Conditions.
Why You Need a Bovada IP Address VPN?
There are many reasons why a VPN is essential when playing on Bovada, but the biggest one comes down to IP address checks and geo‑blocks. The platform uses your IP address to figure out where you’re located, which means access is limited to supported US states. That’s why many users rely on a Bovada IP address vpn to get a valid US IP and avoid access issues, especially when traveling abroad.
If you try logging in from an unsupported region, you’ll likely see messages like “Bovada is not available in your state. Try visiting here." A VPN fixes this by assigning you a secure IP from a supported US location.
Not only will a VPN help you bypass the geo-blocks that Bovada has in place, but it will also provide you with plenty of other benefits, including the following:
- Gain Unrestricted Access to Bovada – As mentioned above, a VPN will help you change your location by providing you with a new IP address from the state or country you choose. All you'll need to do is connect to a server in a state where Bovada is available.
- Get More Casino Games on Bovada - Like other gambling platforms, Bovada offers specific games in specific regions based on their licenses. With a VPN, you can place more types of bets by having access to a wider variety of games.
- Make Your Deposits & Withdrawals Private - Bovada allows you to deposit and withdraw money using payment cards, gift cards, and crypto. Still, those options are region-based, so using a VPN to open up more methods and secure your transactions is always a great idea.
- Play Bovada While Traveling Outside the US – A Bovada IP address VPN lets you log in safely, even outside the US.
- Play Bovada on Public Wi-Fi - In general, public Wi-Fi networks are highly problematic as they're often hotspots of malicious activities. When you start using a VPN, you'll make even the riskiest public Wi-Fi network highly safe, thanks to encryption.
- Safeguard Your Digital Privacy & Bets – A VPN will hide your online activity and encrypt your Internet connection, which means that all your personal and financial information will be safe.
- Access Additional Betting/Casino Platforms – If you choose a powerful VPN with strong content-unblocking capabilities, you can access many other gambling platforms besides the Bovada poker app, no matter where you're located.
- Fight Against ISP Throttling - In many countries, including the US, Internet providers throttle those who download a lot of time. A VPN hides your traffic, making it an effective tool to regain the full speed of your Web connection.
- Browse the Web Anonymously - The best VPNs protect your privacy across the Web, not just when you bet or gamble online. As long as your VPN session is active, you'll browse the Web anonymously and without being followed by digital trackers.

Unable to Access Bovada with a VPN? Here's What You Can Do!
A robust VPN shouldn't have a hard time unblocking Bovada. However, temporary issues may occur. This is when you'll want to check your baseline connection, switch to another server, or try using a different VPN protocol. Let's walk you through all of the possible solutions:
- Check Your Baseline Connection - First, check if your Web connection works as it should by disconnecting from your VPN. Use your Web browser and visit a couple of sites to see if they load properly. If not, restart your router or contact your ISP.
- Pick Another Server Location – The Bovada app detects the use of VPN applications and blocks them. So, if the current server isn't unblocking the platform, try picking another server in that area or a different location altogether.
- Pick Another VPN Protocol - Each VPN protocol handles data differently, which means that some are more suitable for bypassing geo-blocks than others. We recommend going with OpenVPN first. Then, you can try WireGuard.
- Test Your VPN Connection for IP Leaks – Your IP address includes your location information, and if you are in a restricted location, Bovada might detect and block your access. We recommend websites like ipleaks.com that could help you check whether your IP is leaking or not.
- Disable Firewall/Antivirus Software – Sometimes, the built-in firewall on your device or the antivirus you are using could flag VPN traffic as unsafe. You can simply put the VPN service on the whitelist and see if it solves the problem.
- Restart Your Device & VPN - You can also try restarting your device and your router. Keep them unplugged for around 30 seconds, and then power them back in. By restarting your device, you'll restart your VPN as well.
- Check for VPN App Updates – It's normal to forget about updating your VPN client. Every update comes with a set of improvements, and if you haven't updated the software for a while, you could be missing out on many new features.
- Remove Extra VPN Software - Having multiple VPN applications installed can create a software conflict, as they can block each other's ports and connections. Delete everything except your primary VPN app and try accessing Bovada again.
- Ask Your VPN for Support - If you try all the solutions mentioned above and none of them work, you can always contact your VPN's customer support for further assistance.
Using Bovada with a Free VPN: Pros, Cons, and Alternatives
Using a free VPN for Bovada might sound like an exciting idea, but there are many reasons why we don't recommend free VPNs. Yes, they're free, which makes them quite enticing, but free VPNs have many downsides that heavily outweigh the benefits.
They come with many restrictions, such as limited content-unblocking capabilities. So, even if a free VPN provider offers servers in places where Bovada is available, such as Proton VPN or Windscribe, it'll probably fail to pass long-term VPN-detection measures.
With a free VPN, you'll also get low bandwidth caps and slow connection speeds. Also, some free VPNs log and store user information. They do so in order to sell it to third parties.
If you want to access the Bovada casino app safely and play freely, you'll need a premium VPN. To get started, you can opt for a free VPN trial, giving you access to premium features for a limited time.
We'll end by saying that we recommend the NordVPN trial, available on Android for 7 days. Also, you'll be covered by NordVPN's 30-day money-back policy on any other device or platform. Furthermore, if you want to enjoy gambling on other platforms too, make sure you check out our guide to top gambling VPNs.
Final Thoughts
After extensively testing VPNs with Bovada, one thing became clear: simply connecting to any VPN isn't enough. The quality of the provider, the availability of US servers in Bovada-supported states, and the stability of the connection all have a significant impact on the overall experience. During my testing, VPNs with larger US server networks consistently provided smoother sessions, while unreliable or free VPNs were far more likely to cause interruptions or inconsistent performance.
It's also important to remember that a VPN should be used to protect your privacy and secure your connection, especially when traveling or using public Wi-Fi. Before accessing Bovada, always ensure you're connecting through a server in a state where the platform is available, and make sure you're complying with local laws as well as Bovada's Terms and Conditions.
Based on my testing, NordVPN was the best overall, with the most reliable connections and consistently smooth performance. It was the only VPN that rarely required me to switch servers, and betting markets, casino games, and account pages loaded quickly throughout my testing.
