Proton VPN has released a detailed recap of its updates and new features for spring and summer 2025. The company highlighted improvements aimed at making its VPN service more private, productive, and convenient across all devices.
Proton VPN has strengthened its privacy tools to keep users safer online. Its NetShield Ad-blocker now blocks almost all known phishing domains while minimizing false positives, helping users avoid malicious sites.
iPhone and iPad users can now use Proton VPN without a Proton account by selecting “Continue as guest,” making it easier to bypass censorship.
The VPN’s server network has also expanded to 15,000+ servers in 126 countries, adding new locations such as Panama, Armenia, Mongolia, Laos, Brunei, Cuba, and more. Two new US cities, Memphis and McAllen, were also added.
Proton VPN introduced split tunneling on macOS, allowing users to route some traffic through the VPN while excluding other connections. Paid plan users can also use port forwarding for faster torrenting on Mac.
Windows users can now connect via IPv6, joining Android and Linux apps, with macOS and iOS support coming later.
Mobile users benefit from better battery life and faster browsing, thanks to improvements in Android and iOS apps and the VPN Accelerator technology, which enhances page load speeds even under challenging network conditions.
Proton VPN now supports Custom DNS on macOS, iOS/iPadOS, and Android TV, allowing users to access advanced DNS filtering features.
The NetShield Ad-blocker is now available on Android TV, reducing ads while streaming. Users can also set the VPN to launch automatically when the device starts.
Payment options have expanded to include Apple Pay, SEPA, ProxyStore, CoinGate, and multiple cryptocurrencies, including Monero, Litecoin, and Ethereum.
The service also enhanced F1 TV streaming support and added access to local versions of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and other regional services like Channel 5 (UK), Discovery+ (US), VTR Max (Belgium), and Megogo (Ukraine).
A new Connect and Go feature on Android and Windows automatically launches specific apps or websites via a VPN connection, including opening websites in Incognito mode.
Business administrators can now customize shared servers, configure dedicated IPs, and control which server locations are accessible to their users. Gateway Monitor ensures only authorized users access gateways, improving security for distributed teams.
Proton VPN teased its fall and winter roadmap, including a cleaner interface, quicker access to servers across 120+ countries, and new features for Free plan users. The company encouraged its community to share feedback and feature requests.
