VeePN has officially announced that it will no longer support legacy Windows operating systems, including Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. Users running these versions will no longer receive updates, patches, or new features from the company.
According to VeePN Research Lab, the decision aims to encourage users to upgrade to Windows 10 or 11, which allow the VPN to run more efficiently and securely. Older systems, the company explains, often experience compatibility issues such as “verification successful waiting” messages, Cloudflare Ray ID errors, and outdated client problems.
Despite this change, VeePN says there are still ways for users on older systems to stay protected, such as using earlier app versions, browser extensions, or router configurations.
The company has clarified which versions of Microsoft’s operating systems will continue to receive updates and which will not.
VeePN notes that users on unsupported systems can still run the existing version of the app but won’t have access to the latest performance or security improvements.
The main reason behind ending support for legacy Windows systems, according to VeePN, is security. The company’s app uses modern technologies to ensure advanced protection, such as Double VPN and real-time threat prevention. However, older operating systems limit these features and make users more vulnerable to cyber threats.
Microsoft itself has stopped releasing updates for these older systems:
Without ongoing updates, these operating systems lack critical security patches, making them more susceptible to malware and hacking attempts.
VeePN says this move will allow its development team to focus on improving the overall stability, speed, and privacy of its VPN service. By dropping outdated technologies, the company aims to implement newer frameworks and respond more quickly to vulnerabilities.
For those unable or unwilling to upgrade their systems, VeePN has outlined several ways to continue enjoying its VPN protection:
VeePN also offers mobile apps for iOS and Android, allowing users to maintain privacy and security across different devices.
Despite dropping support for older systems, VeePN reiterates its commitment to keeping users safe online, regardless of device or platform. The VPN continues to offer features such as:
The company encourages all users to stay updated with modern operating systems to take full advantage of its latest features and ensure the highest level of digital security.
