NBA League Pass Now Available Through Amazon Prime Video

By Bill Toulas / December 15, 2018

NBA games are among the most spectacular sports that viewers can enjoy, and the love of people for the most breathtaking basketball events is not limited in the US only. Considering that, Amazon Prime has added a new package of NBA live action named “League Pass”, coming at the cost of $29/month or $169/year.

At this cost, subscribers will get access to all games of the season, full game replays, and even a library of classic games. All of this content will be streamable to any device that supports the Prime Video app, with no technical limitations of any kind. To let people get a taste of some live NBA action, Amazon is giving a free week of access to the League Pass package, ending on December 20.

Amazon has been exploring the space of sports content lately, offering streams of NFL games for free to their Prime subscribers, but the NBA League Pass is the first service package of this type to land on Prime Video Channels. It is quite possible that we will see more sports becoming available in Amazon Prime shortly, as the company seems to be in a period of negotiation frenzy to acquire broadcasting rights. They have already secured NFL for 2019, after submitting a hefty $50 million bid that jostled other contenders like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube out of the competition.

NFL games can bring viewer counts of up to 21 million, and as Amazon sees it, this number is worth the investment. The numbers of viewership for the regular season of the NBA are around 1.3 million, while the finals can reach 18 million viewers. All this is great and has been great for traditional broadcasters so far, but it’s actually the first time that a subscription-based non-ads platform like Amazon Prime will bet on making a great revenue out of it.
