A Set of iPad Schematics Reveal Thinner Bezels, Face ID & USB-C

By Novak Bozovic / August 31, 2020

A few days ago, we saw a leak regarding Apple’s upcoming iPad models. And now, another set of information has surfaced, claiming to provide a more in-depth look at the forthcoming iPad Air 4 (most probably). While some of the information found in these two leaks overlap, there's also a reason to remain skeptical about Apple's plans for its tablet lineup.

The latest leak includes a set of schematics (via 91Mobiles) showing plenty of information about this year’s iPad Air. More precisely, we can see a near bezel-less tablet that follows the current iPad Pro lineup's design principles. There's USB-C connectivity at the bottom, a magnet for an Apple Pencil, and the Smart Connector on the back. Also, the schematics show that Face ID will be on offer as well.

Among other tidbits, the leak points to stereo speakers and inductive charging. On the back, there will be a single camera with an LED flash. When it comes to other design features, everything else should come without any changes to how the current iPad Air looks.

The problem with this leak is that 91Mobiles isn't sure whether it shows the iPad Air 4 or perhaps a more affordable model – the one that should replace the $329 iPad. However, it seems highly unlikely that Apple is planning on bringing so many high-end features to its most affordable iPad, especially when it comes to Face ID. With that said, the schematics mentioned above have a higher chance to depict the iPad Air 4 – which is the closest one to the iPad Pro lineup in terms of its design and price.

Based on all these rumors, it’s evident that Apple is getting ready to unveil new iPad models soon enough. And considering that we’re nearing this year’s Apple iPhone event, this could present an opportunity for the company to announce multiple devices at once.
