The 1999 adaptation consists of 92 episodes (including the OVAs), while the 2011 adaptation has 148 episodes.
If you ask a Hunter x Hunter fan, they'll most likely suggest you watch the 2011 adaptation since it has better animation and no fillers. Moreover, the 2011 version also has two additional arcs and is said to be more loyal to the manga.
