HBO Max Finally Gets May 27 Release Date

By Gabriela Vatu / April 22, 2020

We finally have a launch date for HBO Max, and it's May 27th. Although the service was announced last year, and we knew it was going to take place in "spring" we did not have an official date until now.

HBO Max is going to bring more than just HBO-made shows and movies, but also other content from various other sources. They'll also have their own original shows to boast with.

So far, it seems that HBO Max will be an upgrade to HBO Go and HBO Now, and it's more of an answer to the likes of Netflix, Peacock, Disney+ and so on. The platform will feature tons of WarnerMedia content, including movies and shows from Warner Bros, DC Comics, and the regular HBO hits like Game of Thrones.

They also got their hands on Friends, Rick and Morty, The Big Bang Theory, and will be the home of Sesame Street. In terms of original content, they've already announced a few titles. Gossip Girl is returning to screens, Doom Patrol will help us take a look into some more DC heroes, Adventure Time - Distant Lands will take us on a new journey, and we'll also get more Looney Tunes, a talk show featuring Elmo. In total, they promise over 10,000 hours of content. You can check a more complete list of titles that will be coming to HBO Max here.

Although it features a lot more content, HBO Max will cost the same $14.99 per month that HBO asks for HBO Now.

Our number one goal is having extraordinary content for everyone in the family, and the HBO Max programming mix we are so excited to unveil on May 27th will bear that out,” said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of Warner Media Entertainment and Direct-To-Consumer. “Even in the midst of this unprecedented pandemic, the all-star teams behind every aspect of HBO Max will deliver a platform and a robust slate of content that is varied, of the highest quality, and second to none.
