Amazon’s “Best of Prime 2018” Reports the Best-Sellers in its Prime Members Orders

By Bill Toulas / December 4, 2018

2 billion items with one-day delivery or faster – this includes one-day, same-day as well as two-hour delivery options. For example, in the US, the majority of Prime members receive free one-day delivery or faster on more than 3M items. Worldwide, the Prime shipping promise varies by country.

Prime subscribers pay $119 per year or $12.99 per month to enjoy super-fast order dispatch and unlimited access to media such as music albums and TV shows or movies. This means that the specific customer category is the epitome of the modern consumer market, and thus looking into the corresponding stats is quite interesting. So, what was the best seller of the Amazon Prime Now for 2018? Bananas!

Ok, we get it, everyone loves the delicious 'smoothie upgrader', but what about popular items on media consumption categories? The most popular streaming service on Prime Video and Twitch was that of the NFL games, counting 20 million viewers from more than 200 countries around the globe. On the programs category, the series that shined most brightly was “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, following a solid debut from 2017. It is no wonder how this series has managed to win eight Emmy awards as well as a Golden Globe earlier this year. As for binge-watching, the worldwide winners are “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” and the “Homecoming.”

On Prime Music, the artist that won the largest piece of the pie was Justin Timberlake, with his “Man of the Woods” album climbing high up the ranks in spite of the somewhat mediocre critical reception. Next on the list is Camila Cabello and her self-titled album, followed by Travis Scott and the album “Astroworld.” However, the most requested song to the Alexa was the uplifting tune of “The Middle”, by Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey.

Although mass consumption media clearly had the biggest share in the Prime’s customers purchases, it is also interesting to see what people liked to read on “Prime Reading” during 2018. The most borrowed book in a single day was the amazing “Astrophysics for People in a Hurry” by Neil deGrasse Tyson, while the most read book was “Say You’re Sorry” by Melinda Leigh. The most popular category was “Mysteries,” as expected really.

Prime Free One-Day and Prime Free Same-Day are available on more than 3 million items in 8,000 cities and towns. We have not released the number of cities and towns with Prime Free Same-Day Delivery alone, one record to behold is that of the fastest delivery of an order in 2018. The winner was the Kirkland, Washington department, delivering a Nintendo SNES Classic to a customer in just 9 minutes by Prime Now! Finally, the e-commerce giant announced that its most popular items in 2018 were the Echo Dot smart speaker, and the Fire TV Stick, all Amazon’s products.
