ExpressVPN releases AircoveOS v5.3 with major stability and speed upgrades.
Update improves Wi-Fi, VPN performance, and device management.
Aircove routers now offer a more intuitive interface and setup help.
ExpressVPN has launched AircoveOS v5.3, a major software update for its Aircove and Aircove Go routers. The update is designed to improve stability, speed, and ease of use, aiming to meet the demands of increasingly connected homes.
With the average U.S. household now hosting over 17 connected devices, routers are expected to do more while maintaining strong privacy protections. ExpressVPN says the latest version of AircoveOS strengthens the system’s core, delivering smoother performance and reducing the need for troubleshooting.
The update brings several under-the-hood upgrades. “You might not see these changes, but you’ll feel them,” ExpressVPN says. The promise is better streaming, faster downloads, and more stable Wi-Fi, especially in busy households. Here are the updates made to the router and their expected results:
Fewer dropped connections: Key system components like the Linux kernel and Wi-Fi drivers have been updated, resulting in fewer dropped connections and improved reliability, especially during streaming.
Faster downloads: Non-VPN traffic now runs more efficiently, leading to faster download speeds and better streaming quality.
Built-in fixes: The update also improves how the router manages internal hardware components and includes a fix that addresses rare issues affecting long-running VPN connections.
User-friendly interface: AirCoveOS 5.3 also brings a more user-friendly interface. Users can now set VPN server locations right when they create device groups, saving them a few extra steps.
Improved dashboard: The dashboard layout has been improved too, allowing users to view up to five device groups at once without scrolling.

Easier device management: Managing devices on mobile has been made easier with a new dropdown option for moving devices between groups.
Ease-of-use: Subtle animations have been added to make connecting to the VPN more visually intuitive, and first-time users will now see friendly setup tips to guide them through initial configuration.
Auto-updates: Unless users have disabled auto-updates, Aircove routers will automatically install this new version every day at 4 a.m. local time. ExpressVPN recommends keeping this feature enabled to ensure routers stay updated with the latest features and security fixes.
The company also hinted at future enhancements already in development, including improved parental controls and expanded Wi-Fi features.

ExpressVPN emphasizes that while most routers focus on speed and coverage, Aircove is different—it was built from the ground up with privacy in mind. It’s the only Wi-Fi 6 router with built-in ExpressVPN protection, designed to safeguard every connected device automatically. Users don’t need to install apps or manually configure VPN settings. Aircove comes preloaded with AircoveOS, enabling private and secure internet use right out of the box. Some of the built-in features include:
Lightway Protocol for fast and stable VPN performance
Advanced Protection that blocks trackers, malicious websites, and ads
Built-in VPN for all connected devices—no extra app installation
Automatic Updates for new features and critical patches
The AircoveOS v5.3 update is now live and available to all users.
