The second season of NCIS: Origins is expected to be part of CBS’ fall 2025 lineup, likely premiering in late September or early October. It will most likely return to its Monday 10 pm ET timeslot on CBS, with episodes available to stream the next day on Paramount+.
Season two of NCIS: Origins is ready to explore the next chapter in Gibbs’ transformation, diving deeper into the emotional, personal, and professional moments that shaped the iconic agent we know today. After a season haunted by the loss of Shannon and Kelly, Gibbs will begin to steady himself and step into the early version of the leader we first met on Air Force One.
“There’s so much,” Austin Stowell shared when asked what he wants to explore in season two. “I want to see how the rules start to come into his life… I’m looking forward to Gibbs landing on his feet and starting to come into himself a bit more, into the guy that we know.” (via TV Insider)
He also expressed a desire to “start developing the relationship between Franks and Gibbs,” while teasing that marriages could be on the horizon: “Are we going to see Gibbs get married? Are we going to see him starting to try to build a life with a new woman?”
And yes, fans met that new woman in the season one finale—Diane, who eventually becomes Gibbs’ second wife. “Well in canon, within our timeline she would show up now,” co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal told Deadline. “So yes, they will get married, and we’ll see where that story takes us,” Monreal added. Meanwhile, the other co-showrunner David J. North joked, “Wait, Gibbs is getting married again? Oh boy.”
But the fate of Lala Dominguez will also cast a long shadow over season two. After her serious accident at the end of the finale, the ripple effect is expected to shake the entire team. “No matter what Lala's fate ends up being, it is a huge moment that's going to send shock waves through the entire team,” North told CinemaBlend.
He added, “Despite the way Season 1 ended, I know when we come back, we’ll find a way to find some lightness and some humor and just keep doing what we’ve been doing.”
It hasn't been confirmed whether Mariel Molino will return as Lala Dominguez.
No, NCIS: Origins has not been cancelled—CBS officially renewed the series for a second season in February 2025. It was one of nine shows, including Elsbeth and Tracker, to be confirmed for another outing.
Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, shared the news in a statement via Deadline, saying, “This season, our new and returning series continue to showcase CBS as the leader in launching and programming the biggest hits with mass appeal for broadcast and streaming viewers.”
She added, “These returning shows represent a mix of long-standing hits and a new generation of fan favorites. In collaboration with our extraordinarily talented partners in front of and behind the camera, we look forward to delivering another successful season.”
It's still too early, but we'll update it here as soon as we have more information.
Alongside NCIS: Origins, both NCIS and NCIS: Sydney were renewed for the 2025–2026 season, and are returning with Seasons 23 and 3, respectively. Fans can also look forward to the highly anticipated NCIS: Tony & Ziva series, which will debut in fall 2025.
