Vivaldi Integrates Proton VPN with its Desktop Browser to Offer Free VPN Protection
- Vivaldi's desktop browser is now integrated with Proton VPN, so there's no need for additional setup or downloads.
- Both businesses put digital privacy first, providing a European substitute free from data abuse and spying.
- Users can secure their browsing by activating the VPN through the toolbar with just a switch.
Vivaldi has announced a significant update by integrating Proton VPN directly into its desktop browser. This move brings together Proton’s VPN service with Vivaldi’s customizable and privacy-focused browser. The aim behind this collaboration is to ensure a secure and seamless browsing experience. In the words of Jon von Tetzchner, co-Founder/CEO of Vivaldi, Proton VPN is so smoothly integrated into Vivaldi that there will be “no extra downloads; no complicated setup; Just powerful privacy, on your terms.”
Since they are European businesses, neither of these companies is impacted by data-driven corporate strategies and government regulation of Silicon Valley. Their collaboration is based on the idea that user privacy should never be jeopardizedm and that personal information shouldn't be used as leverage. By working together, both companies hope to offer a genuinely independent substitute that puts user security ahead of business interests. Here are a few elements of this collaboration:
- Desktop-Only Integration: Currently, Proton VPN is integrated exclusively into Vivaldi's desktop browser versions.
- Automated Selection of Servers: There is no way to manually choose your location; the VPN links you to the closest/fastest server.
- Unlimited Bandwidth: There are no limits on the amount of data you can use.
- Feature Availability: Free users can access advanced features like WebRTC leak prevention and Auto-Connect.
- Premium Features: Some advanced functionalities, such as Secure Core and Split Tunneling, are reserved for paying Proton VPN subscribers.
Furthermore, the demand for independent, value-driven solutions is increasing with growing concerns over digital privacy and surveillance. Many users and governments seek alternatives to big tech platforms that collect and monetize personal data. Vivaldi and Proton believe that Europe—and the world—deserves privacy-respecting options that have “No state surveillance. No alignment with any political agenda.” Their goal is to keep the web open, secure, and democratic.
According to them, they chose Proton VPN because “Proton has consistently proven itself as a rare kind of tech company. It has challenged invasive surveillance laws, taken governments to court, and stood up for the rights of users everywhere. Its mission is transparent, and its actions speak louder than marketing ever could.” In keeping with Vivaldi's impartial position, they also stated that Proton VPN is run by a Swiss non-profit and is free from political bias.
Users can activate Proton VPN in Vivaldi by following these steps:
- Ensure that the latest version of Vivaldi is installed.
- Click the "VPN" button in the toolbar.
- Log in or create a Vivaldi account.
- Toggle the VPN switch to enable protection.
With this update, Vivaldi claims its users gain an additional layer of online security and privacy with minimal effort. The latest version of Vivaldi with built-in Proton VPN is now available for download.
