The Royals Ending Explained: Sophia and Aviraaj’s fate, a new king, and the late Maharaja’s Secret Revealed

Netflix’s romance drama mixed with regality, The Royals, has entertained its viewers with dramatic twists and charming characters. For eight episodes, we have seen Sophia (Bhumi Pednekar) and Aviraaj (Ishaan Khatter) come closer together, and ultimately, spend a night together. 

However, they decide to keep their relationship a secret from everyone. Meanwhile, Sophia convinces the Queen Padmaja (Sakshi Tanwar) that Aviraaj’s coronation needs to happen on the same day as the launch of Royal B&B at Morpur. Why? Does Aviraaj Become the Maharaja?

Yes, Aviraaj gets coronated and becomes the Maharaja. He initially didn’t want to be the king, as his father had always told him that it was a lonely position. But a talk with Digvijay helps calm him down. Digvijay reassures his brother that he was destined to become the king and that thousands have appeared to support him. 

He also says that their father would be proud of him. The lavish procession begins, and Aviraaj rides an elephant through the crowd with people cheering him on. However, he later discovers that Sophia has left without meeting him. 

Do Sophia and Aviraaj end up Together?

No, they don’t. Sophia and Aviraaj do grow closer and sleep together, but they don’t end up together. However, Aviraaj realizes that he has feelings for Sophia that go beyond just an affair. Also, he asks Ayesha (Nora Fatehi) to leave once she begins insulting her. However, the problem in their love story is her company, or rather Zubin (Adinath Kothare). 

Sophia comes to know from a local reporter that Kunal (Udit Arora), her trusted right-hand man, is leaving her company to join Sameera. He reveals that it’s because she values him more. Moreover, he also reveals that the board wants to replace Sophia to the point that they even asked him, but he refused. 

Zubin, the head of the board, reveals to Sophia that he wants her out of her own company because he has a majority on the board and wants someone else. However, he also says that her team is unhappy with her as she has changed budgets and plans, making the work harder. 

This has resulted in a deterioration of their relationship with the clients, even though Sophia has just delivered a successful event. This makes Sophia leave while she vows to fight for her company. 

The Old Maharaja’s Major Secret Revealed 

Aviraaj finds a letter from his late father in the Maharaja’s chest, which is dedicated to him. He tells him to do better than he did, but also advises him to find love and companionship, so he doesn’t end up lonely. But the major bombshell at the end is that Aviraaj’s father also found love with Maurice, the man whom he left all his fortune. 

Is The Royals Season 2 Possible?

At the time of writing, it hasn’t been confirmed whether Netflix has renewed the show for The Royals season 2. However, if the viewership meets the streamer’s expectations, then a renewal seems possible. The Royals is streaming now on Netflix.
