Apple TV+’s Severance is known for its eerie atmosphere and distinct visual style, and season two expanded its filming locations beyond the first season. From remote Canadian landscapes to urban settings in New York and New Jersey, the series took full advantage of its locations to enhance its unsettling world. In this article, we will discuss where was Severance filmed.
One of the standout locations in Severance season two is Salt’s Neck, the ghostly town featured in episode eight. While the show portrays it as a desolate, forgotten place, it was actually filmed in Bonavista and Trinity Bay North in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
The town’s abandoned feel was crucial for the story, as Salt’s Neck represents Lumon Industries’ dark past—where the company’s founder, Kier, built an ether factory, only to leave the area to decay. To bring this eerie setting to life, the production team transformed an old fish plant into the abandoned Lumon factory.
Patricia Arquette, who plays Harmony Cobel, spoke about filming in Newfoundland, describing it as a “magical” place. “It’s like a time bubble,” she told Decider. “You can still hear the Irish brogue from settlers who arrived centuries ago. It’s so far away and cut off that it feels like stepping into another era,” Arquette added.
While the first season of Severance primarily stayed within controlled indoor environments, season two expanded its scope with more outdoor scenes. Several locations across New York State were used, including:
Additionally, Nassau Community College in Long Island played a role in the new season, with students even serving as extras. The college’s administration building and library were featured in the season’s opening scenes.
The Bell Labs Holmdel Complex in New Jersey, known as Bell Works, continued serving as the exterior of Lumon Industries. The sleek, futuristic building has been an integral part of the show’s unsettling corporate setting since season one.
By combining real-world locations with its meticulously crafted sets, Severance season two expanded its eerie, thought-provoking universe. From the frozen landscapes of Newfoundland to the towering presence of Bell Works, every location added depth to the story, making the world of Severance feel both hauntingly real and disturbingly surreal.
New episodes of Severance season two are available to stream every Friday on Apple TV+. The ninth episode titled, “The After Hours” will air on March 14, 2025.
