NVIDIA SHIELD Now Gets Apple TV App Bringing TV+ Exclusive Content Aboard
- NVIDIA adds Apple TV app on SHIELD’s app store, so users of the streaming device can enjoy TV+ originals.
- Users will be able to experience new content in all its 4K, HDR, and Dolby Atmos glory.
- The graphics company has also pushed a comprehensive update for the SHIELD recently.
NVIDIA has announced the immediate support of Apple TV+ onto the SHIELD, its Android-based streaming and TV entertainment/gaming device. This means users of the SHIELD will now be able to enjoy Apple TV+ exclusives such as Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, For All Mankind, and Servant, as well as movies like ‘Greyhound,’ ‘Palmer,’ and ‘Wolfwalkers’ in 4K HDR picture and color quality and Dolby Atmos sound for a cinematic experience. Of course, channels such as AMC+, Paramount+, and Starz will also be accessible through the Apple TV app.
Additional goodness that comes with the Apple TV app includes built-in Google Assistant support for hands-free control and voice-based commands like “pause,” “rewind,” “fast-forward,” and searching with “Hey, Google.” If you are already a user of Apple TV, you may use your credentials to log in and share your subscription with up to six family members, enjoying your personalized recommendations and access your purchases on the SHIELD as normal. If you are looking to start a subscription to Apple’s streaming service now, you will get a free trial for seven days.
NVIDIA has released a pretty big update for the SHIELD last week, bringing several security and bug fixes as well as enhancements on the popular streaming device. More specifically, version 8.2.3 brought the following:
- This upgrade resolved issues when playing content with the Apple TV app. If you are an Apple TV app customer, please apply this upgrade for the best experience.
- Includes Android security patch level up to April 2021
- Improves re-connection to Control4 IP based controllers
- Adds support for SCUF Infinity4PS, SCUF Impact, and SCUF Prestige controllers
- Adds support for single USB receiver connection to Corsair SLIPSTREAM WIRELESS peripherals:
- K57 RGB KEYBOARD
- DARK CORE RGB PRO MOUSE
- VIRTUOSO RGB WIRELESS HEADSET
- Single USB configuration requires iCUE software and PC or MAC
Remember, the SHIELD is a 6-year-old device, but it looks like NVIDIA isn’t planning to abandon it yet. After all, the 256-core NVIDIA Tegra X1 and X1+ SoCs that power it are pretty comfortable delivering 4K resolutions at 60 FPS and HDR10. The only problem with the aging device is the memory (both RAM and ROM) and the price, which can still be salty. So, if you’re thinking of getting one now, make sure to consider more up-to-date options too, like the recently refreshed Apple TV 4K, for example.
