Netflix Set to Release Redesigned Profile Icons Next Month

By Nitish Singh / July 25, 2018

One of the first features to hit Netflix was 'user profiles' in August 2013. Users were not only able to receive a personalized experience with profile-specific suggestions, but they were also able to choose from a wide range of options and set their own avatars. Despite new content and features coming to the platform, the icons remained unchanged.

Netflix has decided to celebrate the fifth anniversary of user profiles by redesigning some of the most popular icons on the website. Profiles will be getting a makeover with a whole bunch of new icons from some of the most popular TV shows and movies, as well as redesigned classic icons. Users will be able to show their fandom of specific shows and movies by displaying icons of their favorite characters. The new icons will be rolling out to all users within the next few weeks for mobile, TV and website users.

Director of Product Innovation at Netflix revealed “We know the series and movies on Netflix are more than just things you watch to pass the time. The stories — and the characters in them —are also your heroes, frenemies, soulmates and everything in between. We’re thrilled to give you a way to show your fandom and make your connection with Netflix more unique.

The streaming giant will also be polishing its AI to offer a more personalized experience. Suggestions based on viewing history will be offered more accurately. Also, setting up new profiles will also be simplified in the upcoming update. Netflix has been dominating the streaming market with many users of free services opting to subscribe to paid services due to exclusive high-quality content.
