Microsoft Pulls Windows 10 October Update Due to User Complaints

By Nitish Singh / October 6, 2018

Microsoft’s October update for Windows 10 received a large number of complaints, forcing the tech giant to remove the update from its servers. Users who have manually downloaded the update already have been requested to wait until Microsoft fixes the issue and release a fresh update. The decision was taken after users started complaining about their files being deleted on their own.

Microsoft posted an update on its support page stating “We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating”.

Another issue that has been plaguing users who updated to the latest version of Windows 10 is that the Microsoft Edge browser and other store apps have been unable to access the internet. Some PCs even blocked the update due to incompatibilities with certain Intel drivers.

The number of users who are affected by the issue is unknown. Even if a small number of users are facing the issue, it is a surprise how the update went live as millions of Windows users are part of Microsoft’s Insider program and test the latest updates before they are launched. Windows updates have been problematic lately with the April update facing similar issues right before launch, causing the patch to be delayed. Fortunately, the Blue Screen of Death Issues were picked up before the launch of the update, saving consumers the trouble.

The October update was set to be pushed out to all Windows 10 devices by next Tuesday. However, with Microsoft still investigating the issue, there is no official word on when a patched update will be released to users.
