Microsoft News Set to Replace MSN on Android and iOS

By Nitish Singh / June 21, 2018

Microsoft rolled out its Microsoft News app earlier today replacing the new outdated MSN app on the Apple Store and Google Play Store. Microsoft’s latest offering is set to compete with the likes of Apple News and Google News, and it is designed to offer a host of personalization features and ease-of-use.

While MSN is being taken down for mobile users, the news service will continue to operate on the web version. Microsoft has not yet confirmed if they will be replacing the web version of MSN with the new Microsoft News branding. The tech giant revealed that its new offering seeks to keep users around the world informed about the latest events in the most accessible and compressive way while weeding out fake news which is becoming a problem for social platforms.

Rob Bennett, Microsoft’s news editor in chief, revealed in a blog post that the app would allow users access to curated news content. Users can set up the app to show only topics of their interest with dozens of categories to choose from. The app has a breaking news section which is constantly updated to show both local and international news. The app supports customizable push notifications and users will be able to receive notifications whenever a new article is published from selected topics.

The app also features supports a night reading mode that adjusts the colors on the app to make reading in the dark more comfortable. A continuous reading mode is also available to users which seamlessly transitions between news articles without requiring users to go back.

You can try out the Microsoft News app by downloading from the App Store or Play Store right now.
