Konosuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World is one of the best isekai comedies you'll ever watch as an anime fan! Written by Natsume Akatsuki and illustrated by Kurone Mishima, the series follows the story of otaku Kazuma Satou, who finds himself in the afterlife after a "pathetic" death.

In the afterlife, he's approached by a goddess named Aqua, who offers him a chance to be reborn into a new world or go on to heaven. Thinking all his fanboy dreams are about to come true, Kazuma chooses to go on to a new fantasy world. His choice leads to him being tasked with defeating a Demon King who terrorizes villages.

Before he leaves, the goddess Aqua tells him to choose one item of any kind to aid him in his quest. Konosuba is an anime that uses traditional anime archetypes to poke fun at specific genres. Hoping to outsmart the goddess, Kazuma chooses Aqua herself to aid him in his quest, only to realize she's completely useless!

The series also introduces some hilarious characters in the new world like Megumin and Darkness, who will quickly become your favorites. If you're an isekai anime fan, Konosuba is one series you shouldn't miss out on. The series consists of three seasons, totaling 31 episodes. There are also 4 OVAs, one spin-off, and a film.

So, there’s a lot of content to watch apart from reading the light novels it is based on. But do you need to watch it all? Yes, the OVAs, spin-off, and film will give you a much better understanding of the story, character, narrative, and more.

Konosuba Watch Order

What is the correct order to watch Konosuba? The release order is often the one that is followed since it follows the plot of the manga in an easy-to-understand chronological order. However, there’s one thing that’s often debated by the fans- when to watch the spin-off?

Some prefer to watch it as it was released, while others think that watching it first is the correct way to go. However, many think that watching it at the very end allows viewers to enjoy the series uninterrupted. We agree with the last sentiment. So, here’s the order of watching:

Konosuba -God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! (Season 1)

The first season of Konosuba adapts the first two volumes of the light novel and follows Kazuma Sato, an anime lover and a shut-in, who saves a girl from a speeding vehicle. In the afterlife, he finds himself greeted by Aqua, a goddess. She gives him a mission- to defeat the Devil King.

To achieve his mission in the RPG-like world, he will need weapons, and Aqua promises to give him an item or power to arm himself with. However, Kazuma chooses Aqua herself. That backfires because Aqua is useless and also cannot return until the Devil King gets defeated. The 10-episode season follows their journey as they bond and accept more people into their group. Here’s the episode breakdown list:

Konosuba -God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! 2 (Season 2)

Konosuba season 2 adapts the third and fourth volumes of the light novel. This season also follows Kazuma and his party as they try to survive while adjusting to each other’s presence. They go on adentures and meet other characters like Yunyun, a Crimson Demon girl.

She claims to be Megumin’s enemy and this causes the two magic users to get into a competition. To make matters worse, Kazuma’s life takes a turn for the worse and it becomes even more challenging to defeat the Devil King. While this season has 10 episodes, it’s advised that you stop at episode 7 and watch the first OVA. So, here’s the watch order:

Konosuba -God's Blessings On This Wonderful Choker! (OVA 1)

This 23 minute long OVA follows Kazuma, who finds a choker and tries it on, only to find that it’s imbued with magic and can make wishes come true. However, until his wish comes true, it will keep tightening around his neck till he eventually dies. His team works hard to save him by making his wishes come true (no matter how perverse those wishes are). But will they ultimately end up saving him?

Konosuba -God's blessing on this wonderful world! 2 (Season 2 — Continuation)

After watching the first OVA, you can return to episode 8 of season 2 and continue from there. The rest of season 2’s episodes follow the party as they try to save themselves from the wrath of the townspeople who believe that Aqua is a member of the Devil King’s army.

Eventually, Kazuma does something unexpected to help Aqua and solve the problem of the townspeople. However, even that doesn’ seem to be enough. Here are the episodes left to watch in season 2:

Konosuba -God's Blessings on These Wonderful Works of Art! (OVA 2)

In OVA 2, Kazuma is seen living a life free of stress as his debts are all paid off by the reward money he earned after eliminating Hans, one of the Devil King’s generals. However, his life gets changed when Luna, a fan and the Guild receptionist, requests him to take on a new mission- to defeat a golem.

Kazuma accepts this misson because he doesn’t want to let down a fan. So, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness join him on this journey. But the journey isn’t easy and things are not as they seem to be.

Konosuba -God's Blessing on this Wonderful World!- Legend of Crimson (Movie)

Yunyun, who hails from the Crimson Demons clan (with Megumin), finds a letter talking about a disaster befalling her hometown. This causes her to inform Kazuma and the rest about it. They head out in distress only to find that it was a prank by a demon who wants to be an author.

However, Megumin isn’t convinced and so she heads for the Crimson Demons' village and the rest accompany her. When they reach the place, the gang finds that there might have been more to the threat than just a simple prank.

Konosuba -God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! 2 (Season 3)

Konosuba season 3 adapts the sixth and seventh light novel. It follows Kazuma and his party’s adventures in the Crimson Demon Village. We learn more about Megumin and her younger sister Komekko as well as also see how the relationship between Kazuma and Megumin develops. But that’s not all.

The Crown notices Kazuma and hires him to round up the Chivalrous Thief Chris. This mission leads Kazuma and the gang to Iris, the daughter of the Demon King. However, is she aware of this identity herself?

Konosuba -Redstream Explosion! and Beware of Imposters! (OVA 3 and 4)

There are two OVA episodes for season 3. The first one is called Redstream Explosion and it follows Kazuma and his party as they are having dinner at the guild. Luna, the Guild receptionist, brings them a request- they need Megumin to use her explosion spell to stop a typhoon approaching the city of Axel. But things are easier said than done.

The second episode of this OVA is called Beware of Imposters and it follows Kazuma as he eats grilled food at a food stall in Axel. An adventurer spots him and says that he is looking for “Kazuma Satou.” The adventurer tells him that he wants to give Kazuma a piece of his mind. But is this unruly Kazuma Satou the same as him?

Konosuba -An Explosion on This Wonderful World! (Spin-Off)

This Konosuba spin-off features Megumin and it technically takes place before Konosuba’s first season. However, it’s better seen at the very end after getting familiar with the setting and characters. This will allow one to have a better understanding and appreciation for this spin-off/ prequel.

This spin-off follows Megumin as she lives and trains in the Crimson Magic Clan's village. As she grows up, she decides that she is going to dedicate everything to the spell that once saved her life- Explosion!
