Crunchyroll and Funimation, two of the biggest anime streaming platforms, have finally united as one. The merging of the two platforms has been long expected since Sony's Funimation Global Group bought Crunchyroll for $1.175 billion in cash from AT&T in August 2021. Following the merger, several announcements have been made for confused subscribers wondering about the fates of their subscription accounts.
Funimation's entire anime library moving to Crunchyroll means that the new anime series will only stream on Crunchyroll in and after the upcoming Spring season. Funimation will only add new episodes of continuing series. Funimation's official website advises fans to cancel their subscription and opt for a Crunchyroll Premium subscription instead. Crunchyroll Premium gives subscribers ad-free access to the complete library and several other benefits in three other tiers: Fan, Mega Fan, and Ultimate Fan.Â
Will I Get A Refund After Cancelling Funimation Subscription?
According to the terms and conditions on Funimation's official website, the platform does not offer refunds for "unused time in subscription terms." The platform has not announced any special refund measure following their merger with Crunchyroll yet. In addition, fans who already have Premium accounts on both platforms in question have been told to cancel their Funimation subscription.
While this has been the platform's stance, it appears that fans cannot get a refund on their subscription. It also appears that fans will not be given free months or credit added for their Crunchyroll account. However, fans who have a subscription with Funimation do have some options, at least more than Crunchyroll users at the moment.
