The devices are revealed to be machine lifeforms of a sort, forming what the humans recognize as Why-man's true identity! The Medusa within the containment device confirms this, after which we are shown a flashback where Senku deduces that the Medusas at large are the "machine lifeforms" that form Why-man.
Medusa asks if they want to die in response to the containment device. Senku realizes this is the same message Why-man last said after dodging the Petri-beam. Senku and Chrome seem to simultaneously deduce that the Medusas aren't trying to kill humans but rather to prevent death in general. Xeno exclaims the devices are, in fact, mechanical parasites that drive intelligent life to better themselves to help them. The device agrees with what the humans have said and begins explaining what happened from the beginning.
