Apple is Not Innovating Enough According to Fast Company’s Latest Rankings

By Nitish Singh / February 21, 2019

Fast Company published its yearly list of World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2019 and Apple’s ranking has dipped drastically. The tech giant was the number one innovator according to the 2018 rankings, but this year Apple received the number 17 spot. Meituan Dianping has been named the most innovative company for 2019.

Dianping edged past Apple due to its innovative tech platform that “expedites the booking and delivery of services such as food, hotel stays, and movie tickets.”. The Chinese company managed to beat out heavyweights like The Walt Disney Company, Stitch Fix, NBA and Grab to get the number one spot.

Some of the most well-known brands that beat out Apple include Twitch, Shopify and Alibaba. While in 2018, Apple’s innovative AirPods, Augmented Reality, and the iPhone X fetched it the number one spot we did not see the same level of innovation in recent times. The iPhone manufacturer has been experiencing poor sales figures and has been struggling in China and other Asian markets.

The ratings by Fast Company are arbitrary in nature and by no means indicate how good or bad a company is. Apple has a number of announcements in store for 2019. We can not only expect new iPhones to pack brand-new hardware and AR-focused features but also a number of heavily anticipated accessories.

The company is reportedly working on wireless AirPods, wireless chargers, charging mats and more. The company’s Mac lineup is also set to get an overhaul with reports stating that we can expect 5K displays with the upcoming Mac lineup. Major updates to iOS are also expected this year that will see even more focus on augmented reality.
