Braden Russell, Chief Technology Officer at Bugcrowd, says that cybersecurity’s biggest operational problem is not detection but prioritization failure. Security teams face overwhelming streams of bug bounty reports, scanner alerts, intelligence feeds, and AI-generated submissions without enough environmental context.

Russell highlights broken access control as one of the fastest-growing risk areas. Applications span APIs, microservices, integrations, and rapidly deployed features that internal teams cannot fully track.

Outside researchers succeed because they approach systems without inherited assumptions. Russell ultimately reframes cybersecurity as a human coordination problem as opposed to a tooling problem.

Watch the interview for direct assessment of why experienced teams still miss obvious risk hiding in plain sight.
