Key Takeaways

The prominent torrent site TorrentGalaxy.to, which mysteriously went offline in early 2025, has resurfaced with an entirely new and unrelated purpose. The domain now redirects to a sparse promotional page for a memecoin.

This development marks the final chapter in the TorrentGalaxy history, confirming that the once-popular file-sharing hub is permanently gone.

TorrentGalaxy Domain Pivots to Memecoin Promotion

The revival of the TorrentGalaxy domain is not the comeback its community might have hoped for. The site now exclusively promotes a memecoin called "$1" on the Solana blockchain, TorrentFreak recently reported.

The page appears to be a standard template for memecoin projects, with most links being non-functional placeholders.

This TorrentGalaxy memecoin promo has no connection to the original site's operations or its former team. It is unknown whether the site's previous owners are involved in this new venture or if the domain was sold to a new entity.

The site, which was a top destination for millions, experienced instability after being sold to new owners in the summer of 2024. Following a period of financial difficulty and prolonged downtime, it vanished completely, leaving its staff and users in the dark.

Crypto Risks and Implications for Former Users

This pivot marks the end of the TorrentGalaxy era and highlights potential crypto risks for unsuspecting former users who may visit the domain. The new page leverages the old site's traffic and reputation to promote a speculative digital asset, and the site's new purpose is entirely disconnected from its file-sharing past.

The incident illustrates how defunct, high-traffic domains can be repurposed for entirely different, and potentially dubious, ventures after a torrent site shutdown.

Last month, hackers targeted the Dota 2 and PGL YouTube pages to promote a Solana meme coin scam and a fake bitcoin giveaway, respectively. This month, $690 million crypto scam network was dismantled in a multi-country operation.
