Boeing confirmed on Tuesday that an unplanned IT outage affected some of its computer systems and applications, disrupting operations at the aerospace firm. The company said its IT team is working to bring all systems back online.

Boeing IT Outage Disrupts Production

The outage "significantly disrupted" Boeing's commercial and military production, according to The Air Current, which cited people familiar with the issues. While Boeing did not comment on that report, the disruption struck at a critical point in the company's operations, affecting both sides of its manufacturing business.

Boeing completed some deliveries on the last day of the quarter, according to Reuters. However, final commercial jet inspections and paperwork largely ground to a halt due to the disruption.

These closing steps are essential to handing over finished aircraft, and their interruption points to the outage's reach across the delivery process.

Boeing Rules Out Cyberattack

In its statement cited by Reuters, Boeing addressed the source of the problem directly. "The cause of the outage is understood – we have no reason to believe it is due to a cyberattack – and our IT team is working to bring all systems back online," the company said, framing it as a technical failure under active repair and not a data breach.

The timing, falling on the last day of the quarter, added pressure to Boeing's delivery efforts as teams worked to restore affected systems and resume normal production.

In early June, a Microsoft Exchange Online outage caused email delays across the U.S., APAC, and Europe, and earlier this year, a Microsoft 365 outage disrupted cloud services and blocked email and file access for enterprise users.
