On June 3, 2025, desktop users of Mullvad VPN were shown an unexpected warning stating that their version of the app was unsupported and that their privacy might be at risk. The message affected users running version 2025.6 of the desktop client.
The company has now confirmed that this warning was displayed in error. In an official update shared on June 5, the team clarified that version 2025.6 is safe to use, and that users do not need to be concerned. “The warning message was communicated by mistake. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” the company said.
The erroneous message has since been removed, and the issue that triggered it has been identified. The team added that steps are being taken to ensure similar incidents do not happen again.
Although version 2025.6 is considered safe from a security standpoint, it has been rolled back for a different reason. Some users reported connectivity issues while using the release, though these did not affect privacy or data protection. Users experiencing such problems are encouraged to upgrade to version 2025.7-beta1, where the connectivity issues have been resolved.
Mullvad VPN emphasized that user privacy was never compromised and that the 'warning' is now under control.
