What is the plot of Grantchester Season 10?

Set in 1962, Grantchester Season 10 ushers viewers into a new era of social and technological change—from the dawn of computers to the novelty of pockets in women’s clothing. While murder remains at the heart of the series, this season dives even deeper into the personal journeys of its beloved characters.

Alphy Kottaram has finally found a sense of home in Grantchester, forming a genuine and evolving bond with DI Geordie Keating. Together, they investigate crimes that unfold across deeply emotional settings—church grounds, a foundling home, even within the police station. Yet Alphy’s journey isn't limited to solving cases. Love unexpectedly enters his life through a case, but before he can embrace it, he must confront long-buried truths about himself.

"At the end of series nine, Geordie recognizes that talking about family makes Alphy uncomfortable," Robson Green tells Masterpiece (via whattowatch).

Alphy says he’s from a very straight-laced family but Geordie’s always known there’s something beneath the surface and, in series 10, we discover what the notion of family really means to Alphy and more about this dark, corrosive secret he’s been harboring all his life. It will seriously impact on his relationships within the Grantchester family,” Green added.

Meanwhile, Geordie wrestles with the complexities of fatherhood and shifting expectations for his son. Cathy seeks new professional challenges, with Mrs. Chapman supporting her ambitions. Leonard embarks on a soul-stirring personal journey of his own, while Larry and Miss Scott navigate their blossoming workplace romance—and its consequences.

Rishi Nair hints that Alphy’s cheerful exterior may not be the full picture. “In Season 10, we’ll start to unravel some of the secrets that he’s been hiding and we get to know Alphy maybe for the man who he really is, rather than the man that he presents to the world” (via TV Insider).

As Robson Green explains to Masterpiece, “The relationship with Alphy and Geordie will progress into something extraordinarily beautiful and hopefully, life-changing in terms of cultural acceptance of the melting pot that is the beauty of this country… It’s just about your character, not the color of your skin.”

Season 10 promises not just more gripping mysteries, but powerful emotional arcs that redefine belonging, truth, and the meaning of family—making it one of the most deeply resonant chapters of Grantchester yet.

Who’s in the cast of Grantchester Season 10?

Before filming began, the duo recorded a short video message to let fans know that Season 10 was officially on the way. Check it out below.

It’s my first ever TV job and … I’ve been welcomed with open arms by every single person,” Russell-Brown shared with PBS. “I’m going to cry if I talk about it too much! I’m properly part of the little Grantchester family,” Brown added.

Is There a Trailer for Grantchester Season 10?

The trailer opens during an Easter service, where Alphy delivers a sermon, “When the disciples went to the tomb early that Easter Sunday morning... he was gone.” This immediately sets a spiritual yet ominous tone for what’s to come.

Fragmented scenes show Geordie investigating a tense crime, “Means motive and no alibi.” We also glimpse a chilling warning: “No matter what they tell you, they are the real devil in this place.” These lines hint at a gripping mystery lurking beneath the village’s serene surface.

The trailer’s closing beats ramp up the suspense with rapid-fire dialogue, “Life shapes people in different ways.” Geordie says, “There's no shortage of murder, mystery, and mayhem…

Coupled with urgent visuals—car doors slamming, paper rustling, murder victims—these moments promise a season full of emotional depth, dark secrets, and razor-sharp investigations.

Rishi Nair, Robson Green, and more cast members drop exciting hints about what fans can expect in Grantchester Season 10.
