The Thunderbolts movie (with an asterisk) are here, and they are ready to prove that they are as capable as the Avengers, even though the villain they are up against is way beyond their power level. So, what happens at the end of the film? In this article, we will reveal that and then some more.

The Void Causes Chaos and Yelana Faces her Darkest Nightmares

Valentina orders Bob/ The Sentry to take out The Thunderbolts. While he does attack them initially, he ultimately lets them go. When Val berates him for doing so, he says that he is like a god. He also reminds her that she told him that he was more powerful than all the Avengers combined.

When Val reaches for his kill switch, he grabs her and slams her into the wall. But she gets saved because of her assistant, Mel, who subdues him. However, Sentry then gets taken over by The Void, who is a manifestation of his anxiety, anger, depression, and more.

The Void then begins vanishing anyone he comes into contact with, making Yelena walk into the darkness of her own will. There, she is exposed to nightmares, and we get to see what happened when she was in the Red Room. In one nightmare, she tricks one of her friends into a trap, and in another, a girl gets punished because Yelena reloads her gun the fastest.

Soon, she notices Bob in another reality in a mirror’s reflection and shoots the glass. This allows her to pass through. There, Bob explains what is going on.

How do The Thunderbolts Escape The Void?

Bob explains to Yelena that he isn’t controlling The Void. A vision reveals to her that Bob’s father was abusive to his family. Bucky, Red Guardian, Ghost, and Walker then also show up, and the Thunderbolts work together to hurry through Bob’s most painful moments. The Void then shows itself to the team and restrains everyone except Bob.

The latter launches himself at The Void, but his punches don’t affect the entity. Yelena then breaks free of her constraints and runs toward Bob. She throws her arms around him and reassures him that he isn’t alone. Soon, the others like Ghost, Bucky, Red Guardian, and Walker do the same. Bob calms down, and this causes The Void to become less powerful. Also, the vanished people start reappearing again. The group also returns to the city and spots Valentina.

The New Avengers are Announced

Once the team spots Val, Ghost vows to kill her (as she tricked her into killing Taskmaster), and the Red Guardian suggests that they should just break her bones while questioning her. Val goes under some debris, and the team follows her only to find that a press conference has been set up.

Val then announces on the podium that the heroes who have followed her are “The New Avengers.” This causes Yelena to creep up behind her and whisper, “Oh, we own you now.” Also, the asterisk in the title card of the Thunderbolts was meant to indicate that it was just a temporary name for the team. So, they are actually the New Avengers.

Sentry and The Void’s Master Plan

Sentry might be the main “villain” of this film, but he doesn’t really have a master plan. Bob seems to be a sweet guy who struggles with depression and anxiety. The Void is a physical manifestation of his dark thoughts. These consume him and make him do terrible things.

At the end of the film, Bob is seen chilling with the team at the Avengers Tower. It looks like he is planning on not using his powers for the time being. When Yelena tells him to help them in a space mission, he shuts her down and tells her that he has helped plenty by doing the dishes. So, will we see him again? We now know that he will indeed be back in Avengers: Doomsday

The Thunderbolts movie is now in theaters.
