And Jinny is on every front-page, wanted for the kidnap of her unborn child. All of the girls have been forced to grow up and now have to fight to be heard, as they wrestle with romance, lust, jealousy, births, and deaths...themes consuming all women of any age, no matter what year it is. Last time we got a taste of England. This time we’re in for a veritable feast.”
Season one followed a group of spirited American heiresses, led by Nan St. George, as they infiltrated British high society in search of love and freedom. The finale ended on a high-stakes note: Nan walked down the aisle to marry Theo, sacrificing her feelings for Guy in order to protect her sister Jinny from her abusive husband, James. Yet, it’s clear Guy hasn’t exited the story for good.
Cliffhangers from the first season still linger—Jinny’s escape and the scandal that followed, Mr. and Mrs. St. George’s impending divorce, and the mysterious identity of Nan’s biological mother. Readers of Edith Wharton’s unfinished novel will know Nan’s marriage happens relatively early in the book, leaving much fertile ground for adaptation.
Creator Katherine Jakeways and her team now have the narrative freedom to reimagine Wharton’s world. “It’s been a complete thrill to watch people all over the world fall in love with these characters, who’ve been brought to such vibrant life by our spectacular cast,” Jakeways said in a statement.
“We know season one left audiences desperate to know what’s next for our buccaneers, so I’m absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to explore the further adventures of this smart, joyful, messy sisterhood,” the statement added.

Behind the Scenes
Season two of The Buccaneers was shot in Scotland, with series creator Katherine Jakeways once again leading the writing.
