Apple WatchOS 5 to Get Walkie Talkie Mode, Auto Workout Mode and More

By Nitish Singh / June 5, 2018

With Apple focusing on helping users reduce screen time with iOS 12, WatchOS 5 helps take that vision a step further with its new fitness features. The Apple Watch will be able to track fitness activities, provide heart rate information and include sports features. Users will also be able to compete against other Apple users with fitness leaderboards that can last up to a week.

The new update will also allow Apple Watch devices to prompt users when tracking physical activity to avoid accidental triggers. It can also pre-emptively store workout data to ensure users do not lose out on progress if they set up an Apple Watch late into a workout.

Apple is also introducing a walkie-talkie mode which allows multiple Apple Watch owners to communicate if they are nearby. Siri Actions that are part of iOS 12 will also be integrated into the platform. Proper third party-integration which was missing will now be available with the new OS update.

New apps including a Podcast app and an Apple Wallet app are being added to WatchOS 5. WebKit support is being added to the platform to help users browse websites that are optimized for WatchOS.
