Surfshark has announced a new security feature for its Surfshark One and One+ bundles - an email scam checker designed to protect users from phishing attacks and online scams. The feature uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze suspicious emails and alert users before potential harm can occur.

What Is the Email Scam Checker?

The new email scam checker is integrated into Surfshark’s Google Chrome browser extension and Gmail, offering an added layer of protection against phishing attempts.

The tool scans incoming emails for indicators of fraud - such as manipulative content, spoofed sender details, and malicious links commonly used in phishing campaigns. By detecting these warning signs early, Surfshark aims to help users avoid scams and reduce the risk of malware infections.

The feature provides on-demand protection, allowing users to manually scan any email they suspect may be unsafe.

Why Surfshark Introduced This Feature

According to industry reports, phishing remains one of the most common online threats, with an estimated 3.4 billion phishing emails sent daily and 1.5 million new phishing websites created each month.

Surfshark notes that scammers are increasingly using AI to craft more convincing and targeted phishing messages. These often imitate legitimate brands, create a sense of urgency, or use personal details to trick recipients into sharing sensitive information.

The company says the new email scam checker was built to help users stay ahead of evolving phishing tactics and maintain control over their online safety.

How It Works and Who Can Use It

The email scam checker is available to subscribers of Surfshark One or Surfshark One+ plans.

To access it, users must:

  1. Install the Surfshark Chrome browser extension.
  2. Navigate to the Email Scam Checker tab in the extension settings.
  3. Toggle the feature on.
  4. Open a Gmail email and click “Check email” to analyze it.

The tool is currently limited to Chrome-based browsers, but users can extend protection across multiple devices since Surfshark allows unlimited simultaneous connections per account.

Surfshark’s Approach to Data Privacy

Surfshark emphasizes that the scam checker’s AI runs entirely on Surfshark-controlled servers, meaning no data is stored or shared with third parties. Once an email scan is completed, the data is immediately deleted.

The company also confirmed that user information is not used for AI training or external analytics. More details are available in Surfshark’s official Privacy Policy.

Availability

The email scam checker is now available to all active Surfshark One and One+ subscribers through the Chrome browser extension.

Surfshark says this addition reflects its ongoing commitment to strengthening user protection against modern digital threats.

“Scams are getting smarter, but so are we,” the company stated in its announcement.
