The Summer of 69 movie is blowing viewers away with its quietly powerful story of self-esteem, confidence, and how one mustn’t always judge a book by its cover. The story follows Abby (Sam Morelos), a shy high-school teen who wants to be with Max (Matt Cornett), her childhood crush.Â
Now that he has broken up with Mercedes (Ava DeMary), his long-term girlfriend, she sees the chance to finally get what she wants before high school gets over. However, school rumors say that Max is well experienced while Abby has much to learn.Â
So, she hires Santa Monica (Chloe Fineman), the top dancer at Diamond Dolls, a local strip club, to teach her. So, does Abby get Max? And what happens to Monica? In this Summer of 69 movie ending explained article, we will answer all those questions and more.Â
Yes, she does. At the party Abby throws at her house, she gets to spend some one-on-one time with Max and finds out that he returns her affections. However, he isn’t as experienced as she was led to believe by other people at her school.Â
In fact, he has never slept with anyone. In the end, after they have successfully raised funds to help Monica save her strip club, both share a kiss.
Yes. Initially, Abby and her friends (who are 18 years old) can party at the strip club, live stream their performances to raise money for Monica. A lot of funds are gathered, but it still falls short of the 20k that is needed for Monica to buy Diamond Dolls and save it from the prick, Rick, buying it.Â
Thankfully, Robin (Monica’s friend who she reconnected with), steps in with her husband, a frequent visitor of the strip club, and helps with the remaining funds.Â
Monica considers the Diamond Dolls as her second home and a lot of her friends are there as well. However, the club wasn’t doing well and the owner, Betty, had to take loans from another club owner, Rick Ricards, to keep the establishment afloat. But the loan came at a price- if Betty couldn’t pay back the loan on time then Rick would become the owner of the club.Â
However, Monica never liked Rick because he had behaved badly with her and even asked her to dance naked when she had auditioned to work at his club. So, she wanted to buy the club to prevent Rick from getting it and also to ensure that she would never have to work for him. The money she needed to come up with was 20k, and that too in a week.
As such, when Abby asked Monica to teach her how to become more confident with Max (while putting a down payment of 5k), she agreed. However, Abby got so caught up in getting Max that she failed to do the live stream, and this resulted in her not being able to raise the remaining amount. She felt that she had let Monica down, and so she came up with the idea to live stream in the strip club to raise the remaining amount.Â
Monica taught Abby how to be more confident in her own skin. This helped improve her low self-esteem, and she was finally able to talk to Max without hallucinating. Abby also realized that even though Monica looked confident, she too suffered from low self-esteem because she felt like she had not accomplished much in life.Â
She also realized that Monica went to the same high school as her, and so she hid from her former teachers and classmates. What helped Monica overcome this was her talk with Robin, a former classmate who wasn’t nice to her. She found out that even though Robin’s life looked good from the outside, it wasn’t.Â
