Sony To Hike Prices of PlayStation Vue Subscription Plans on July 24

By Nitish Singh / July 3, 2018

Sony announced that its PlayStation Vue plans will see a rise in subscription costs. Four of the PlayStation Vue plans that include Access, Core Elite, and Ultra will cost 5$ more from July 24. The company released a statement revealing that a rise in company costs led to the price hike.

Sony is not the first company to raise subscription costs on online TV services. Similar services like DirecTV Now, YouTube TV, and Sling TV have seen price hikes in the recent past. Sony offers a compilation of news, entertainment and sports channels for smart TVs, Web browsers, iOS, Android and Sony’s own PlayStation devices.

Sony’s Vice President and Head of PlayStation Vue Dwayne Benefield revealed “At PlayStation, we are always evaluating the PS Vue service to ensure we are providing a compelling value to our customers. Unfortunately, we must increase the price of our multi-channel plans to keep pace with rising business costs and enable us to continue offering a better way to watch the best in live sports, entertainment, and news."

Once the price changes go into effect, PlayStation Vue’s Access plan will be the cheapest at $45 which offers popular live TV content only. The Core plan priced at $50 will offer Sports channels along with the Live TV content that the Access plan offers. Vue Elite offers movies on demand with a large library of English and non-English movies to choose from at $60.

While Sony’s flagship Premium plan priced at $80 offers added exclusive content from HBO and Showtime and is partnered with over 90 networks. The service also offers standalone channels and add-on packages for Sports and Spanish content which will not see any changes in price.
