Each episode of Omnivore focuses on the cultivation, transformation, and consumption of eight essential ingredients: bananas, chilies, coffee, corn, pork, rice, salt, and tuna. Redzepi and Emmy Award-winning executive producer Matt Goulding lead audiences on a global adventure, uncovering the stories behind these ingredients and how they've shaped societies, cultures, beliefs, and human history.
The series visits places like Denmark, Serbia, Thailand, Spain, Japan, Djibouti, Peru, South Korea, France, Colombia, India, Bali, Rwanda, Mexico, and various locations in the United States. Redzepi and other contributors delve into local culinary traditions, highlighting efforts to honor, conserve, and protect the Earth's resources.
More than a decade in making, it was filmed primarily during the Covid. The beauty of Omnivore is that its episodes can be watched in any order. However, the last ingredient, corn, ties the entire narrative together. Omnivore was inspired by Planet Earth.
