Nintendo Switch To Get Social Media Centric System Update

By Nitish Singh / March 13, 2018

From now on, it will be even easier to add Facebook and Twitter friends to your Nintendo Switch account. Nintendo is about to release its latest system firmware update 5.0.0, and although it will not pack many cool features, its social media integration option is more than welcome.

The feature works if you have logged in to your Facebook and Twitter accounts on your Nintendo Switch. Once logged in, you will be able to add friends from said social media platforms to your Switch account if they have also done the same. This is a much better way to increase your friend-list compared to the previous use of friend codes.

All your Facebook and Twitter friends who have logged in to their Switch accounts will appear as suggested friends on your Switch UI. As stated, you too will have to log in to your social media accounts on Switch. To access the list of suggested friends, all you have to do is head on over to your “User Page” from the Home Menu, and you will see “Friend Suggestions.” Do note, users who are 13 or older can use this functionality.

Apart from this new feature, the update allows users to filter the News section to find unread posts or filter posts from a particular channel. A new notification system has been added that informs when pre-ordered games have unlocked. And purchases that are made through a PC, smartphone, or table will start downloading sooner on your Switch, even if it is in sleep mode.

Also, who can forget the addition of 24 new user icons from Kirby and ARMS? Some parental control measures have also been added which allows specific titles to be whitelisted overriding the restricted software settings.
