Streaming Platform Mixer Celebrates One Year Anniversary with New Features

By Nitish Singh / May 26, 2018

Popular streaming service Mixer is rolling out a host of new features as part of its first anniversary. The service announced through a blog post that the Mixer team wants to refresh the experience for both mobile and desktop users. Broadcasters are set to get tools that can make streams a lot more fun and interactive for viewers.

One of the most touted features is the MixPlay developer toolkit. Microsoft’s Share (Xbox One) Controller can be used with the platform as a virtual gamepad. The feature was announced last month and will go live shortly. Live streamers can manually edit what the Share Controller can do in the streams and assign commands to create a more interactive experience.

The Mixer DevKit is available for streamers to set up support for the controller using easy-to-use editors. Developers who are familiar with HTML or Javascript should be able to take advantage of the new changes as it requires coding experience to take full advantage of the new additions. This feature is available only for streamers who use the Xbox One to stream. Users who own an Xbox One or Xbox One S controller can take advantage of the new feature and can find streams that offer Mixer Share compatibility.

Developers who use the Mixer platform can take advantage of the development kit and integrate overlays into their streams specifically designed for esports or viewer interactivity. These overlays can also be interacted with by Android and iOS users and are not limited to desktop users only. All of these features will be made available for all platforms in June. A beta release for the desktop and Android versions of the app is expected soon with iOS being left out of any kind of beta testing. The features will go live for Mixer Pro users first, before being made available for the ad-supported free users.
