Major Google Cloud and Cloudflare Outage Impacts Google, YouTube, AWS, and Other Leading Tech Services

A significant outage earlier today impacted multiple major platforms and services. The affected services included high-profile names like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Spotify, Discord, Twitch, and many others. 

The root cause has been attributed to a failure in Cloudflare’s Workers KV service's underlying storage infrastructure, which was impacted due to an outage at a third-party cloud provider (Google Cloud). 

This outage created a ripple effect, causing cascading failures in services dependent on Cloudflare’s infrastructure.

Downdetector reports and Google Cloud status page said Gmail and YouTube were experiencing widespread issues on June 12, 2025, due to a Google Cloud Platform outage. These issues included login problems, crashes in service, and unavailable service. 

The reported down services are:

Dane Knecht, Cloudflare’s Chief Technology Officer, issued a prompt acknowledgment of the issue, stating, “Our Workers KV service failed and the downstream products that rely on that service had outages of their own." 

Knecht apologized for the significant disruption, as the downtime impacted critical enterprise operations and everyday user accessibility across diverse sectors, such as cloud storage, gaming, e-commerce, and communication platforms. 

He further emphasized Cloudflare's commitment to transparency, promising a detailed postmortem report with insights into the incident's underlying causes. This report will serve as a roadmap for implementing robust, long-term fixes to prevent recurring failures of this magnitude.
