Release date & Where to Watch

For now, the film remains stuck in limbo with no release date in sight.

What is the plot of Kung Fury 2 Movie?

Set in an alternate 1985, Kung Fury 2 follows Miami’s ultimate defender, Kung Fury, and his elite team of time-traveling heroes known as the Thundercops — a bizarre squad featuring humans, dinosaurs, and hybrid warriors. But when a tragic loss causes the team to disband, a shadowy villain steps in to help Adolf Hitler, a.k.a. the Kung Führer, in his quest for the ultimate weapon.

With time, space, and Miami’s prestigious Kung Fu Academy at stake, Kung Fury must embark on a wild, neon-soaked mission to stop history’s most dangerous criminal and restore balance once and for all.

Who’s in the cast of Kung Fury 2?

Is There a Trailer for Kung Fury 2?

The explosive 10-minute promo reel for Kung Fury 2 is as wild and over-the-top as fans hoped. Featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a cigar-chomping, shotgun-wielding U.S. president “out to kick some Nazi ass,” and Michael Fassbender as Colt Magnum, a mullet-sporting renegade FBI agent who claims to be the “best god d*mn FBI agent in the world,” the footage teases the sequel’s full-throttle insanity.

David Hasselhoff also returns, this time suited up in red leather and surrounded by puppies, and even transforms into a talking '80s-style sports car dubbed the Hoff 9000. The promo opens with a quick recap of the original short, then launches into the sequel’s chaos—bringing back familiar faces like Viking warriors, Triceracop, and of course, Kung Fury himself.

Now teamed up with Colt Magnum, the pair jog on the beach in classic buddy-cop fashion, only to be thrown back into action when it's revealed that Adolf Hitler is still alive. With a reported budget of over $34 million (via Cosmic Book) and more stars than ever, the sequel looks to amplify the bonkers energy of the original short—which was shot mostly on green screen in Sweden and famously included dinosaurs, ninjas, and time travel.

Some fans believe the sizzle reel was intentionally leaked to generate buzz and attract final support for a release, echoing the strategy behind the leaked Deadpool test footage that helped push that film into production. You can watch the 10-minute leaked footage below.

What is the Kung Fury 2 Lawsuit?

Kung Fury 2 has remained in limbo since post-production was halted in 2020 due to a legal dispute with its Chinese investors, Creasun. After filming wrapped in late 2019 in Bulgaria and Germany, a lawsuit was filed accusing Creasun Entertainment USA of failing to deliver a promised $10 million, which brought the project to a stop. Creasun countered by claiming the suit was baseless and insisted it had simply exercised its contractual rights to take over the film. Since then, according to Variety, progress on the movie has stalled, with little movement in resolving the legal standoff.

Will Kung Fury 2 ever be Released?

There’s still no confirmed release date for Kung Fury 2, but the recent leak of a 10-minute sizzle reel may reignite momentum. Though uploaded anonymously, the promo was confirmed as real by director David Sandberg, who told Variety, “This was an internal promo video that was never supposed to be seen by the public. I feel bad because it contains a bunch of plot points and temp VFX.”

Despite the unintended leak, Sandberg remains hopeful. “I hope at least people can see the passion that we poured into the movie, the world deserves to see it as it was meant to be seen,” he said. “This movie has been held hostage for the past 5 years but I promise to keep fighting for it and make sure this film gets the chance it truly deserves,” he further added.

While legal issues have stalled the release for years, fan interest sparked by the sizzle reel could help push the film closer to the finish line. After all, Variety also added that, "The leak has seemingly been timed to coincide with the Cannes Film Festival, where the 'Kung Fury” short first premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar in 2015 and where, the same year, the feature sequel was first announced by Sandberg and KatzSmith Productions."
