Everything you should know about Instagram’s New Feature – ‘Music in Stories’

By Deepak Parihar / June 29, 2018

In the last couple of weeks, Instagram shot series of mega updates on the platform, starting from IGTV feature, followed by a new four-way video chat. And now finally introduced the much-awaited feature on Instagram: 'Music in Stories.'

While the competitors like Musical.ly, which are based entirely on videos supported with the background music, are stealing the market, it was a necessity for Instagram to come up with this feature. Now, for the first time on Instagram, users can liven up their stories with their favorite music.

The process to create a story with a soundtrack is simple. First, you either search for a specific song, or artist, or browse the song by its genre or mood, or simply get on to 'what’s currently popular' on the platform. Subsequently, you can select the part that you would like to add to the story with the help of the start and the end brackets. To make things simpler, the interface also supports the fast-forward and rewind to get to the very exact part of the song that you want in your story.

The feature also supports picking a song before capturing a video. For this, you’ll have to go to the new 'Music' option after you open the camera and swipe under the record button. After this, you can select and trim the song as per your need—whatever fits your taste and the story. Post this, you can record the video as the song streams in the background. Simple.

On its official blog, Instagram mentioned that currently 'Stories' feature is used by more than 400 million users, every day. “We’re excited to give new ways to our community to feel closer to their followers and friends,” the blog further added.

So from now on, your friends and follower can hear more of favorite music with your photos and videos. There is also an option to display a sticker with the name of the song and artist. Instagram promises to update their music library every day with all the latest and classic updates.

We learned from the official Instagram blog that Instagram’s new music sticker is available as a part of its version 51 and accessible in only some selected countries. As of now, this new feature is available only on iOS and will soon arrive on Android.

Instagram acknowledges that music plays an important role in how we express ourselves to our friends and audience and how we share out moments in a global community. We are excited for all of Instagram's new updates and also for the upcoming ones.
