How Fast Is Naruto?

By Samona Punjabi / March 3, 2022

The question about Naruto's speed has plagued every debate in the Naruto-fandom for years! The Child of the Prophecy, the Hero of the Fourth Great Shinobi War, and the Seventh Hokage of Konohagakure, Naruto Uzumaki is one of the fastest ninjas in Narutoverse. Fans of the show are well aware that one of the few people who can rival Naruto's speed is his late father, the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze.

You'd think that during the 23 years of Naruto, fans would have concluded what Naruto's speed was. However, it seems that the debate will never end. It's easy to complain about this age-old debate; however, the Naruto-verse is complicated and, at times, inconsistent when obeying the laws of gravity or physics. Even though Naruto sometimes defies science, fans have tried to make sense of the in-universe ninja world to try and understand how Naruto's speed works.

Let's take an objective look at how fast Konoha's number one unpredictable ninja is!

How Fast is Naruto Uzumaki? Is He Faster Than Light?

Over the years, several fans have tried to figure out how fast Naruto moves by observing his moves in the various arcs shown during the series. The problem with calculating Naruto's speed is that the character developed several "modes" over time, like the Kurama Chakra Mode, Tailed Beast Mode, Sage Mode, etc. At some point, Naruto can combine the Kurama Chakra Mode along with his Sage Mode, creating a new Nine-Tails Chakra Mode that gives him the ultimate defense, offense, and enormous speed.

Therefore, it's almost impossible to have an exact estimate of just how fast Naruto can travel. However, we believe Naruto can move slightly faster than the speed of light. We have our reasons and some fan theories that reaffirm this. Let's take a look:

The series has confirmed that the Lariat, used by the Raikage and Killer Bee, is close to the speed of light. Fans who have watched the anime should be well aware that the Fourth Raikage Ay was much faster than Killer Bee and often reduced his speed to match B's for a perfect double Lariat. Hence, it's safe to assume that the fourth Raikage's fastest punch is lightspeed.

In episode 283 of Naruto: Shippuden, titled "Two Suns," Naruto gets into a brief altercation with the Fourth Raikage, who refuses to let Naruto and Killer Bee enter the war. However, the number one stubborn jinchuriki, Naruto, adamantly proves himself worthy to the Raikage. Naruto dodges the Fourth Raikage's fastest punch during this episode just like his late father Minato Namikaze once did.

Impressed with his talent, the Fourth Raikage allows Killer Bee and Naruto to enter the war. Coming back to our debate, the event where Naruto dodges the Fourth Raikage's fastest punch (lightspeed) happens before the leaf shinobi breaks the nine-tailed fox Kurama's seal. This means that Naruto dodged a lightspeed attack in Kurama Chakra Mode without really breaking a sweat.

Naruto finally befriends Kurama during the war and eventually breaks the seal, allowing Kurama to pass on tremendous chakra to Naruto. Not to mention, Kurama also combines his chakra mode with Naruto's sage mode, creating the Nine-Tails Chakra Mode. Let's not forget that Rikkodu Senin, AKA the Sage of Six Paths himself, also eventually grants Naruto HIS CHAKRA, allowing the latter to use the Six Paths Sage Mode, which is much faster than any of his previous modes.

Considering these facts, we think it's safe to assume that Naruto Uzumaki can travel faster than the speed of light. We're not even going to get into the Boruto debate, where Naruto uses the incredible Baryon Mode and is even stronger and faster than he once was!
