Google is Reportedly Working on A New Google Glass Enterprise Edition

By Nitish Singh / March 6, 2019

Google launched its futuristic yet controversial “Google Glass” in 2012, but the device never quite gained the popularity people thought it would. Smart wearables did create an impact in the market but it was through smartwatches and VR headsets, and nothing like the Google Glass ever quite made it big in the market.

Despite its failure, Google has not given up on the product and is reported to be working on a new Google Glass with major upgrades. Dubbed the “Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2”, it just received its FCC certification. The upcoming product is getting major upgrades along with some design changes as well.

The FCC filing states that the device will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 with LTE support, 3GB RAM, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The camera unit will feature a 32MP sensor capable of 4K recording at 30FPS as well as 1080p recording at 120FPS. On the software side of things, the new Google Glass will pack Android Oreo.

While the previous generation Google Glass came with a magnetic connector, its successor will adopt USB-C which is the standard connectivity option these days. The details on the FCC filing will be made public on May 11th which may lead to some more details being uncovered about the upcoming product.

Google has not officially confirmed anything so far, and it is unlikely that we will see the product anytime in the near future. The upcoming Google Glass is not all that the tech giant is working on with a new Pixel smartwatch reported to be in the works. Google has been absent from the smart wearables market for some time, and it is finally time for the company to make a comeback.
