ExpressVPN has introduced a new Themes feature for its iOS and Android apps, allowing users to personalize the app’s appearance, including access to a long-awaited dark mode. The update is part of the provider’s broader effort to improve usability and deliver a more comfortable experience for mobile users.
The newly added Twilight mode, ExpressVPN’s version of dark mode, is designed to reduce eye strain in low-light environments. Alongside Twilight, other available themes include Sand, Midnight, Sky, and System Default, giving users more control over how the app looks and feels. iOS users can access these themes immediately, while the rollout for Android will complete within the week.
In addition to color themes, ExpressVPN now allows users to customize the app icon itself. Options include Classic, Dynamic, Neon, and Grey. These personalization features can be accessed from the “Appearance” section under the Profile tab or by tapping the edit icon on the home screen.
According to Shay Peretz, Chief Information Officer at ExpressVPN, this update aligns with the company’s focus on merging form with function. “The introduction of Themes is the next step in our continued commitment to product improvement at ExpressVPN,” he said. “Whether you’re using ExpressVPN at night, during travel, or just prefer a different look, the new options including ‘Sky’ and ‘Twilight’ ensure your experience is smooth, stylish, and easier on the eyes.”
The new customization tools follow a recent redesign of ExpressVPN’s interface in May. That overhaul brought a fresh layout, a visual connection map, and a built-in speed test tool to help users identify optimal server locations. Previously, ExpressVPN brought a change in its app as well as the Aircove router to strengthen its UX.
While simplicity remains at the core of ExpressVPN’s mobile apps, centered around a one-tap connect button, the new updates provide deeper customization without complicating the experience. ExpressVPN is widely considered one of the best mobile VPNs, particularly for iPhone users.
Users interested in the new Themes feature are advised to update their app to the latest version.
