What is the plot of Earnhardt?

The Earnhardt docuseries will dive into the life and career of Dale Earnhardt, who was a seven-time Cup Series champion. He lost his life at the 2001 Daytona 500. To bring his life on screen, Prime Video used archival footage as well as interviews with his friends and family. This includes Dale Earnhardt Jr., his son, and a NASCAR legend in his own right.

The logline states: “Earnhardt is a four-part documentary series that explores the legendary racing career and complex family dynamics of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt. With rare archival footage, thrilling races, and emotionally revealing interviews from his children, rivals, and closest friends, Earnhardt is the definitive story of an American icon, both on and off the track.”

The synopsis of the docuseries, as per Prime Video’s press release is:

A charismatic, working-class hero to millions of fans, Dale Earnhardt was the most influential figure the sport of NASCAR has ever known. 'The Intimidator' spent the better part of two decades as the most visible figure in stock car racing, breaking through the confines of the sport's regional fan base into mainstream notoriety.”

It further states that “The Goodwrench No. 3 Chevrolet, with an eye-catching black paint job, became one of the most feared and iconic symbols in NASCAR history, as Earnhardt notched 76 race wins and a record-tying seven NASCAR Cup Series championships over a groundbreaking 26-year career.”

The docuseries will also discuss how Dale Earnhardt idolized his father, Ralph, a respected and loved NASCAR driver in the early days of the circuit, and how his own kids wanted to continue that legacy. Director Joshua Altman revealed in an interview that this series is about family legacy. He explained (via Awful Announcing):

I know that was always our intention to sort of, let’s tell a family story. Much in the way that The Godfather isn’t about a mobster. It’s really about a family who just happens to be in the mob. So for us, that was sort of the approach to this… We very much saw Dale’s sort of trajectory, his arc is this person who is hellbent on achieving success in a way that takes him away from his family. Whereas Dale Jr. is he’s searching for success in order to bring himself closer to his father.”

In the Rubbin is Racing podcast, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Kelley Earnhardt-Miller rated their father’s parenting skills. You can watch the clip below:

Who is in the cast of Earnhardt?

It has been confirmed that Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Kelley Earnhardt-Miller will appear in the docuseries. It remains to be seen who else is a part of it.
