App Store and Apple Music Down for Some iOS 11 Users

By Nitish Singh / February 1, 2019

According to reports from multiple users, there may be an issue with iOS 11 that is preventing users’ access to Apple Music and App Store. There have been a number of users who reported issues on social media but an official fix is yet to be deployed. The issue is affecting both jailbroken devices as well as stock phones.

Users on the Reddit iOS jailbreak subreddit have also reported connectivity issues affecting their devices as well. Initial reports suggested that the issue is affecting jailbroken users only but a number of users running a legitimate version of the mobile OS have also been affected. While users running the stock version of iOS 11 can simply update to iOS 12 if their device is eligible, users running jailbroken devices cannot as there is no exploit available for Apple iOS 12 yet.

Some users have suggested setting the data back to January 29 to restore access. The issue has been linked to security certificates that expired recently and Apple is yet to update it. However, there has been no official confirmation so far and we are awaiting Apple’s response.

According to social media controversy, Apple disabled iOS 12 to force users to update to iOS 11. However, that is unlikely to be the case because, despite the tech giant’s track record of updating most of its devices for a very long time, there are older devices that did not receive an update to iOS 12. If the issue is indeed linked to the security certificates, a simple update will fix the issue for all users.

Apple’s System Status page has not been updated to reflect the issue. The only issue that is currently being investigated by the company is the recently discovered bug affecting Facetime users.
