Amazon Alexa Now Works with Getty Images for Visual Searches

By Nitish Singh / September 17, 2018

Amazon Echo Show devices will now be able to show users images from its vast image catalog. The feature was made possible thanks to the partnership between Getty Images and Amazon which was announced recently. Alexa was limited to verbal answers only due to the nature of the devices, but with a display being added to the Echo Show, the smart assistant can take full advantage of it with visual features.

You get access to the usual verbal answers, and Alexa also pulls relevant images from Getty. The new feature should be compatible with all upcoming smart assistants from Amazon that come with a display as well. Google is also said to be working on a smart screen which is expected to release later this year.

Senior Vice President of Strategic Development of Getty Images Peter Orlowsky revealed in the official announcement “Our premier collection of editorial, creative and archival content is a natural fit for Amazon's Echo products, bringing best-in-class visuals to Echo users. We are honored to unite with Echo's screen-based products and to use our deep library of content to give Alexa her best look yet."

Getty Images is a leader in visual communications and hosts over 300 million images including 200 million digitized images that cover several popular categories including news, sports, music, celebrity, fashion, conceptual images and more. The World’s largest commercial archive partnering with Amazon will definitely allow the e-commerce giant to up its game in the midst of fierce competition from other smart devices. Amazon’s Alexa is not restricted to smart speakers alone. The smart assistant is also built into Amazon’s Fire tablets, smart home devices and more.
