Surfshark has announced a new update for Dausos, its proprietary VPN protocol, focused on improving connectivity on heavily managed networks. The enhancement is intended to help users who access the internet through school, university, or corporate networks where strict firewall settings can sometimes interfere with VPN connections.
The latest changes address a problem some Dausos users previously experienced when trying to connect from these restricted environments. According to Surfshark, the protocol can now establish connections more reliably on networks that apply tighter controls over internet traffic.
Improved Reliability for School and Workplace Networks
Many educational institutions and businesses use advanced firewall configurations to manage and secure their networks. While these measures help administrators control network activity, they can also make it more difficult for VPN services to function properly.
With this update, Surfshark says Dausos is better equipped to work within such environments, reducing connectivity issues that affected some users in the past.
Commenting on the update, Karolis Kaciulis, Leading System Engineer at Surfshark, said the company continues to prioritize improvements to Dausos and that the latest changes were made in response to user feedback regarding connectivity challenges on certain networks.
For users, this means a smoother experience when attempting to use Dausos on campus Wi-Fi, workplace internet connections, or other highly managed networks where VPN access may previously have been inconsistent.
What Dausos Offers Users
Surfshark also highlighted several features that differentiate Dausos from traditional VPN protocols.
According to the company, Dausos can deliver up to 30% faster speeds through its AEGIS-256X2 encryption technology, which is optimized for modern hardware and designed to improve protocol-to-server performance.
The protocol also includes post-quantum security measures. These are powered by a hybrid ML-KEM×X25519 key exchange system and an ML-DSA self-signed root certificate framework, intended to protect users against both current and future security threats.
Another key feature is user-specific traffic isolation. Instead of sharing a common tunnel with other users, each Dausos connection is assigned its own private digital tunnel, keeping individual traffic separate.
Additional security measures include post-compromise security, which helps prevent future session data from being exposed if encryption keys are compromised, as well as port randomization that makes connection paths more difficult to identify.

Surfshark says Dausos will continue receiving updates beyond its initial launch, with ongoing improvements based on user needs and feedback.
