Fourth Individual Sentenced in Darknet Counterfeit Pill Distribution Conspiracy
- Darknet Distribution Ring: Four Massachusetts men were sentenced to over 57 years for manufacturing and distributing counterfeit pills via darknet marketplaces.
- Lethal Synthetic Opioids: The counterfeit inventory contained fentanyl, methamphetamine, Bromazolam, and N-pyrrolidino etonitazene (Pyro).
- Task Force Operations: The Homeland Security Task Force successfully dismantled the illicit enterprise operating across digital and physical domains.
The last suspect of four, Daniel John Blaney, was sentenced to federal prison for a conspiracy to manufacture and distribute counterfeit pills across the United States following a comprehensive Homeland Security Task Force investigation. The perpetrators distributed the narcotics primarily via darknet marketplaces and the U.S. Postal Service.
Darknet Marketplaces and Manufacturing Operations
The four defendants from Lynn, Massachusetts, received a combined total of over 57 years in prison, according to court documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
From at least May 2022 to June 2025, the conspirators reportedly utilized industrial pill presses to manufacture counterfeit Oxycodone, Adderall, and Xanax pills. Instead of legitimate pharmaceuticals, these pills were laced with fentanyl, methamphetamine, Bromazolam, and N-pyrrolidino etonitazene (Pyro), the DOJ said.
Court documents indicate the conspiracy was responsible for at least 9,000 sales of pills containing methamphetamine, fentanyl, or Pyro. In this case, the Pyro utilized was approximately 20 to 40 times stronger than fentanyl.
Authorities linked over 12 fatal overdoses directly to the conspiracy’s pills. “Criminals who exploit darknet marketplaces to traffic counterfeit pills are fueling a deadly epidemic with absolutely no regard for human life,” said Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Acting Executive Associate Director John Condon.
Law Enforcement and Threat Disruption
The successful disruption of this darkweb operation required extensive interagency collaboration. The investigation integrated resources from the FBI, HSI, DEA, and CBP. This takedown was executed as part of Operation Take Back America. The DOJ said that individual sentences included:
- 18 years and 4 months for Daniel John Blaney, 28 – sentenced May 27, 2026.
- 12 years for David Robert Kable Jr., 27 – sentenced April 29, 2026.
- 12 years for Javier Alexander Bermudez, 31 – sentenced March 18, 2026.
- 15 years for Kenneth Emmanuel Lora, 27 – sentenced December 17, 2025.
This month, the suspected German admin of Dream Market was arrested for laundering illegal proceeds. In February, a Glendale man was sentenced to almost 5 years in prison in a darknet drug distribution case.
In 2025, European operation Deep Sentinel dismantled the longest-running dark web drug market Archetyp, and the Nemesis, Tor2Door, Bohemia, and Kingdom Markets drug networks were dismantled in global Operation RapTor.
