Josh Hartnett’s action resurgence continues with Fight or Flight movie, a chaotic, high-octane thriller from James Madigan that throws everything—guns, knives, and even a chainsaw—at the audience. While the film doesn’t reinvent the genre, it delivers pure popcorn fun with its over-the-top sequences, twisty narrative, and a career-best action performance from Hartnett. And that cliffhanger ending? It’s practically begging for a sequel. Let’s break it all down.

The Setup: Lucas in Exile

Josh Hartnett plays Lucas in the Fight or Flight movie. He is a disgraced Secret Service agent hiding out in Bangkok after an “incident” involving a high-profile diplomat. The so-called misconduct? Beating up a predator protected by political power, specifically the CIA director’s brother. Lucas was right, of course, but it didn’t matter.

He’s pulled back into action by his ex, Katherine (Katie), also an agent who once betrayed him. She offers him a deal: board a Bangkok-to-San Francisco flight, find a mystery terrorist named Ghost, and hand them over without incident. Do that, and he gets his freedom back.

The Big Reveal: Who is Ghost in the Fight or Flight Movie?

Lucas reluctantly agrees, stepping into a pressure cooker of tension aboard the plane. He quickly discovers he’s not the only one after Ghost—bounty hunters, intelligence agents, and mercenaries are all onboard, each with their own agenda.

After a brief detour involving Cheyenne, a rival hunter who poisons Lucas, the real twist hits: Ghost is actually Isha, one of the flight attendants. Lucas is the first to piece it together, and instead of turning her in, the two form an uneasy alliance. She’s not a villain, but a revolutionary genius with a powerful device that could upend the global balance of power. Her motive? Dismantling the system that enabled child trafficking—something she personally endured.

Why Lucas Becomes a Target

Once Isha’s identity is revealed, Lucas becomes expendable. Agent Hunter, another one of Katie’s operatives, secretly leaks his photo to every hired gun on the flight, turning the hunter into the hunted. It’s not personal—Hunter just wants the device and doesn’t want Lucas interfering. Katie appears complicit in the whole operation, confirming her betrayal runs even deeper.

The stakes skyrocket as Lucas fights for survival, with enemies attacking from all sides. What follows is a jaw-dropping extended action sequence packed with brutal brawls and wild kills—including a scene where Lucas gets high on toad venom mid-fight.

The Ending: Escape, Betrayal, and a Cliffhanger

After defeating wave after wave of adversaries, Lucas refuses to complete the mission. He won’t hand Isha over—not even for his freedom. But just when you think it’s over, Fight or Flight drops its final twist. The plane never makes it to San Francisco—turns out, Isha has been diverting the flight all along. Lucas blacks out from exhaustion and injuries, waking up in a crumbling makeshift hospital.

Before he can gather his thoughts, the building comes under fire. Isha reappears, saving him just in time and dropping the bombshell: their fight isn’t over. The film ends on a tantalizing note, setting the stage for what could be a globe-trotting sequel with higher stakes and even more outrageous action.

Will There be a Sequel?

With its cliffhanger ending, a compelling antihero in Isha, and a clear setup for future conflict, Fight or Flight movie seems tailor-made for a follow-up. Josh Hartnett’s performance is a major draw, and the film’s over-the-top style offers plenty of room to grow. If audiences respond well, don’t be surprised to see Fight or Flight 2 announced sooner rather than later. Until then, buckle up—this is one turbulent ride you won’t forget.

Fight or Flight is playing in the US theaters now. It was previously released in the UK in February 2025.
