The Last of Us season 2 episode 4 throws Ellie and Dina deep into the fire — and just when you think they’ve found a moment of peace, all hell breaks loose again. From radio transmissions about Abby to shocking reveals and a haunting flashback of Jeffrey Wright’s Isaac Dixon, the episode sets the stage for what’s shaping up to be an explosive second half of the season.
Ellie and Dina narrowly escape both the WLF and a horde of infected, finding temporary refuge in a crumbling Seattle theater. Just as they begin to settle, they intercept a WLF radio call referencing “Lakehill,” a potential clue to Abby’s location. Despite explosions and gunfire erupting nearby, the two decide to head into the chaos, believing Abby might be there.
The intercepted chatter suggests that Lakehill is under siege. Whether it’s the Seraphites or the infected attacking the WLF there, it’s clear something big is happening. Ellie and Dina suspect Abby may be involved — and for Ellie, that means no turning back.
Episode four opens with a brutal flashback that introduces us to Jeffrey Wright’s Isaac Dixon. Once a FEDRA officer, Isaac turns on his comrades after witnessing their cruelty, forming what would become the Washington Liberation Front. Now the WLF’s ruthless leader, Isaac’s violent tactics — including torturing a Seraphite with a copper pan — reveal the terrifying extent of his power.
His scenes also introduce Josh Peck’s darkly comic soldier, who opens the episode with a twisted joke and ends it bloodied and broken. Welcome to the Jeffrey Wright villain era.
In the chaos of escaping through the subway, Ellie is bitten once again — and Dina panics. With no choice, Ellie reveals her immunity for the first time, shaking Dina to her core. Unlike the game, where the moment is loaded with tension, the show adds warmth. Ellie even jokes about being a “dad,” lightening the mood in an otherwise harrowing episode.
Moments later, Dina drops her own bombshell: she’s pregnant with Jesse’s child. It’s a revelation that will surely complicate their journey. Ellie, visibly shaken but compassionate, doesn’t pull away. Instead, the two share an intimate moment in the theater, reaffirming their love amid the chaos closing in around them.
The theme of blurred morality pulses through the episode. Isaac’s betrayal of FEDRA is painted as righteous — but his methods are brutal Meanwhile, we see once-innocent recruits like Burton adopt his brutal ideology, proving how easily idealism is corrupted in this world. As the Seraphites retaliate, their own religious zealotry adds another layer of moral gray.
Despite the violence, Ellie and Dina manage a rare moment of joy. In a record store, Ellie plays “Take On Me” for Dina — a beautiful callback to the game and a symbol of fleeting peace. But happiness doesn’t last in The Last of Us. With the WLF tightening their grip and Abby’s shadow looming, the road ahead is only going to get darker.
While Abby remains unseen, the mention of Lakehill and Nora hints that her storyline is about to collide with Ellie’s. Fans of the game know what's coming — and it’s not pretty. Episode four blends raw emotion, brutal flashbacks, and heart-pounding action to devastating effect. As Ellie and Dina press deeper into enemy territory, their love is the only light left — but how long can it survive in a world this dark?
