The series focuses on conversations with survivors, loved ones, and experts as it uncovers the lasting trauma caused by manipulation, deceit, and abuse within intimate partnerships. The show is part of Investigation Discovery’s ongoing No Excuse for Abuse initiative, which highlights the urgent need to address domestic and partner violence throughout the year, not just during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Jason Sarlanis, President of ID said: “At ID, we are deeply committed to raising awareness and fostering dialogue around unhealthy relationship dynamics and intimate partner violence. With Toxic, we aim to empower the voices of survivors and continue impactful conversations... Elizabeth’s passion, empathy and care have provided a safe space for survivors to speak out and share their stories."
In the premiere episode, Sleeping with a Stranger, airing May 5, Chambers meets Kelly Sutliff, whose seemingly idyllic marriage turned into an ongoing nightmare. Other episodes explore chilling stories including a woman framed by her ex-fiancé, who was a U.S. Marshal.
As the series progresses, viewers will get to see a family demanding justice after a fatal dental visit, and a military wife’s tragic abuse case. The season concludes with Chambers investigating convicted conman Anthony Strangis and uncovering new alleged victims.
