The concept originated during the third season of "The Snoopy Show" when writer Scott Montgomery proposed a series centered around Snoopy as a Beagle Scout. Boutilier notes that previous Beagle Scout episodes showcased a different facet of Snoopy, depicting him as a humorously exasperated troop leader, reminiscent of an older sibling.
The show coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Beagle Scouts' introduction in Charles M. Schulz’s original Peanuts comic strip.
